Website says that applications are being accepted now, but it's only available on 6th Feb.

I know these type of 'bond' accounts aren't kept open for very long, but just for 1 day is plain silly ... :D :rotfl:

What will happen if the BACS doesn't go through? Will it reappear in my account in 3 days or will I have to wait another 3 days on top for it to be returned?

It will be bounced back to your account taking another 2/3 days. Total loss of interest is therefore between 4 & 6 working days.

Just phoned them about the BACS transfer I did yesterday into my Issue 1 bond and although they hadn't had it yet, they confirmed again that as long as they have cleared funds by FRIDAY 8th it will be fine!

To clarify, that's for topping up accounts already open.

From what I've been told you should be fine with a CHAPS transfer tomorrow, Thursday or even Friday I think!

This is terrible. My friend went all the way to the Kingston branch to deposit money into an account that was opened last Thursday and was turned away. Now I'm reading about all of you being allowed to do it anyway.

Did we just go to the wrong branch?

You probably went to the wrong cashier.

It appears everyone got a different answer from them. What about the people who paid the CHAPS fee to make the deposit when they didnt have to.

Seems to be a bit of a farce this. I transferred quite a lot out of my online account into my new bond and when I got the certificate of deposit it said my opening balance was £0 ! Asking them where my money had gone they took two days to come back and they apologised and told me that they had made a mistake in creating my account and my money had gone into another account but that they would create a new account for me and I would get an new certificate of deposit!! Moral of the story, check !

Hurray! I CHAPS'd my money across yesterday morning, they have received and accepted it and are going to send me a balance sheet for the entire amount which is in my bond now! I was told yesterday that I should get my money in ASAP, if it turns out I could have done a normal BACS to reach them by Friday I will be a bit miffed about losing £30, but at the end of the day it's in now and can start earning nice interest!

  • That's good news Beate!

I've just received my bond certificate this morning - I got the 1 year bond issue 1 no problem even after only posting the cheque on the 1st  thought I might have missed the boat...
I would normally have a cup of tea
