I have posted this further up, but in case it was missed, this guy has a video on the net showing you how to set up your Garmin 200 series - its very useful if you are a techno dumbo like me and he is also happy to take questions by email.

Actually, I can see now how people end up in fords etc and stuck in mud - as he shows you how to tick the avoid routes, including avoid unmade roads. Very helpful.

Hi Mark, Yes you can. You can buy SD memory cards (for appropriate unit) or download via USB connections from your PC to the unit. The only question is whether the a/c unit chargers will work. The cigar lighter car charger should work in what ever car. check out
    www.tomtom.com and select australia/nz

    or www.garmin.com

Both do both a majority of major countries and the appropriate download

Stevie has decided to got for a TomTom ONE so My TomTom Go 520 is still for sale if you are interested? Its never been used as I got a 720 at the same time (long story). Im selling it as I have loads of maps for it, UK, Europe, USA & Canada and also Austrailia and New Zealand, which will be of interest to you. It charges from car or USB too so no need to worry about adaptors!

Let me know if you are interested, as I will end up putting it on ebay.

    Cheers
  • Hey,

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Ebuyer have the TomTom One at £114.99 with free delivery - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135597

Hi guys, I was wondering which one you would get out of these two:

I'm really stuck on which one to get!

I'd ideally like one where you can just type in the name of the place (ie a pub name) and it could find it (not sure if this can be done!). Also would like to be able to take out a road on a route (ie if I heard on a radio there was traffic on a certain road, before getting there I could re-route it).

    Cheers!
  • Quite a few of you on here like the Garmin 200W but can anyone help regarding traffic management. I've read that the cheaper sat navs with the plug in tmc's can be slow but what about the more expensive sat navs where the tmc is intergrated into the machine?? I travel alot on motorways so think this would be a better option? Yes or no?

Hi Dave, if you go to my post earlier on this thread, you will see a link to the site where the 200 wide version is about £116 - also a link to a site where a guy has a video showing you how to use the Garmin 200 series and how to find places without post codes etc. I believe - I still havent got mine which I ordered(the 200 series is currently being updated with 2008 maps so wont be sent out til next week) - that you can enter your own POI - places of interest - and it will then remember it for you. You can also bring up places like pubs, hotels, petrol stations. As far as I can see you cant take an individual road out of your route but you can use the avoid mode to take out major roads/motor ways etc. so I guess that would cover your query.

Of course both those you are looking at are the more economical end of the market - there are others which would do a lot more but at a higher cost. My choice of the 200W is for a basic, always getting lost even if Ive been there a dozen times before, easy to see with a 4.3" screen, reliable but at reasonable cost job. If you read the reviews on those two links you have given, you will see the choice is for the Garmin. Im not sure if a usb is included in the box - the guy on the video as below says only use garmin compatible - halfords have them for £4.99 free delivery at moment.

  • Couldn't get the head phones, they say that they are not advertised with them but the installation book says that they should by included. The website advertised to download updates doesn't seem to want to play either. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. This is my first message so please forgive any blinding errors. Thanks.
  • I did buy one of these and it came without an earphone (which it said was in the box) and they trickily put a £10.57 shipping charge on it. They don't want to give me back the shipping charge if I return it so I end up £10.57 down the Swanee. icon13.gif

Why didn't you change the shipping to Free Super Saver?
    .....

  • What's the deal?

The price of sat nav units is plummeting all the time....

    Two current top picks
    • Cheapest: Navigo with full UK mapping. £59.99 delivered
Available from ebuyer this matches the feature-set of some much higher-end models. It has a 3.5" touch screen, plus 2D & 3D mapping and full postcode search; mp3/4 capability (using SD card slot). Importantly, ebuyer has got hold of up-to-date mapping info for the unit too, which you can download from its product page. Free delivery.
    • Best feedback: TomTom One UK. £119.94 delivered
In terms of customer feedback, TomTom is the clear market leader. Its most basic model, the TomTom One, is very straightforward to get up and running, and will seldom lead you astray (constant updates available). It's currently cheapest at Halfords, using a special freely-available voucher code (on the linked page). However, as it was £99 at Amazon over Christmas it may be worth waiting for another cheap offer to pop up before buying one.

might be a great deal but total inefficiency by the couriers, City link ,have meant two whole days plus two and a half hours of time wasted waiting for delivery.Goods will now be returned undelivered and we will buy elsewhere even if we have to spend more.Ebuyer were unhelpful and delivery company totally useless.Would not recommend either company.
