I think people would feel they weren't as safe (and maybe also assume the texture would be inferior) and not use them.

If people were that worried about the cost of contraceptives surely they'd be getting them free from the family planning clinic

  • On the subject of Tesco value toilet roll, after much moaning and groaning I managed to get my lot used to it as I resented spending the thick end of two quid on four rolls of charmin. However, I have noticed the quality has dropped lately - very thin and the perforations don't match up which is extremely annoying! Tried Morrisons value at the same price and it is much better. DH and DD both noticed and asked if it was still Tesco value. DH was shocked as he hates anything that comes from Morrisons!
  • Eggs - I only buy organic or free range eggs - the taste difference is amazing, and as I eat eggs a lot I want tasty ones!

me too finally managed to get hold of some free range ones, they cost me £2.70 for the dozen too  we haven't had any for over a month now,but I will not buy eggs laid by caged hens they should be banned  if I had a bigger garden I'd keep my own hens again, but it's way too small :(
  • Teabags - will buy shop's own brand, but not the Value (Smartprice) ones as they are vile!

Coffee - similarly, but don't drink much of it nowadays.

Loo-roll - ditto - can't use the really cheapie ones as too hard (piles in the family!!!!!) but any brand will do as long as it is soft enough.

Oher than that - it is Value Brands all the way for us and pretty much always has been (once I weaned DH off those '57-variety' beans!).

One thing I'm finding really annoying is that, I guess because lots of people have now switched to Value who didn't used to buy it and the supermarkets think they can get away with it, the prices have risen horrendously for some Vaue items.....and I have nowhere to downgrade to!

Teabags (i don't drink coffee and no longer buy it for visitors as most drink tea anyway). I've tried cheap brands and would rather drink hot water than drink cheap tea. I buy the more expensive brands but only when they are on offers like BOGOF.

Bread (i almost always make my own, but would rather go without than buying cheap bread which goes all pastey and gets stuck to the roof of the mouth - yuck!)

Toilet tissue and sanitary products - it's counter productive for us to use cheap brands as we use more because they are not adequate for our needs. I buy the more expensive brands, but again, only when they are on offer, and then i stock up.

    I wont cut back on:
    Lurpak butter - love it!
Decent teabgs - the lowest I'll go is shop's own, but generally stock up on branded at Costco
    Yogurt - Muller or nowt
I must point out that I make sure that when I buy they're on offer, most things I buy are SP, esp tins. OH says SP coffee is fine - he takes a flask every day and at 49p a jar who am I to argue! I dont drink coffee, hence the decent teabags! Hee hee!;)

you will always be rich enough to be generous.
  • Ah, there are a few things we won't compromise on:
Tea - has to be yorkshire, we love it. I'll stock up when it goes on sale so don't normally pay full price for it :D
    ketchup - must be heinz
toilet roll - shops own brand is fine, although the recycled stuff isn't bad either and is generally the same price.
washing up liquid, washing powder and cleaners - all of them are either ecover or tescos natural brand. My OH has very sensitive skin and also it's our part in being enviro friendly.
Bin bags - the value ones are too weak and thin. I try to get one grade better.
Debt at highest 01/01/2008- $79,385.32

    Hi doelani,

There is an earlier thread on the same subject so I'll add your post to it so that you can read through what others won't compromise on.
