Toilet roll - will do own brand but not budget/value
Bread - the supermarket 75p ones go mouldy within 24 hours - will not buy value - usually end up with hovis or kingsmill - although prefer granary - but rest of family don't like the bits in it
Mince - as find cheaper packs don't go very far due to fat content
Washing up liquid - tried loads but always go back to FairySlimming World - SW 156 - CW 152.5 GW 133 - 19.5 lbs to go
March Grocery Challenge - £200
Spend/Left
164.60/35.400 -
Fairy laundry liquid & conditioner - I normally stockpile it when it's on offer and use less than the bottles say.
Coffee - I don't drink it myself but OH has a cup a couple of times a week (on dialysis so isn't allowed more) so he has something like alta rica, I normally get it when it's on offer.
PureNuffStuff shampoo bar, conditioner & soap - most beauty products make me itch & natural stuff can be really expensive or not lather enough but purenuffstuff is reasonably priced (for natural) and is lovely.
Heinz ketchup - again don't use it myself but OH & DD prefer it.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Heinz Tomato Sauce, nothng tastes quite as nice
Heinz Mayo it has that chip shop taste lol
Fabric Softner, Fairy liquid, Shampoo
Moisturiser has to be good quality as OH has very sensitive skin
Meat/Sausages from the Butchers and Veg from the Market
Bread is Kingmill
Free Range Eggs
Like a good quality Porridge but will put cheap honey in just for some sweetness
Think thats about it really0 -
I'll use cheaper stuff if I'm on a really skint week but I prefer to use Lenor fabric softener. I buy the concentrate and only use half a capful to try to make it last as long as possible.
i use white vinegar as a fabric conditioner - it's very good ...and ridiculously cheap!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
I used to think that I'd never compromise on baked beans, coffee or toilet roll but we're now using own label (but not the cheapest) beans, coffee and loo roll.
The one thing I wont compromise on it beer tho, my other half went to the supermarket and I gave her a few quid to pick me up some beer. She came back with Own brand larger... Yuk!! Used it for cooking in the end.0 -
My views have changed somewhat since this thread started. Now I homestly can't think of anything I won't compromise on apart from free range eggs. But they are cheaper from the farm shop than caged supermarket eggs anyway. £1.30 per dozen.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Free range eggs
Fair trade ground coffee
Calon Wen milk
Wine
To be fair there's not a lot that I won't compromise onBut the items above are seen as luxuries not necessities and are heavily rationed in my house!

We will compromise on almost any product. Those that we won't buy the basics brand, we will generally use the store brand. The few exceptions:
- processed peas
- beer, nonalcoholic beer, wine, cider
- bread (although we DO buy the basics bread rolls and such)
Can't think of anything else right now.... lolMSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
My teeth hate it if I use anything other than Listerine. I've tried all sorts but the sensitivity comes back after a week if I don't use it. (I've heard that Wilco do exactly the same product in their own packaging but my nearest Wilco is 400 miles away!)Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0
