Tiscali

Hi, signed up for Tiscali at the end of December LAST YEAR!!
was told it would be up and running for the 11th January, last Friday rang the freephone number as we had still not heard anything, asking to be transferred to customer services as I refuse to ring the 0870 numbers and they flatly refused, so I asked if they would get them to ring me, again they refused and not politely! So I sent an email saying if it was not connected by today 21st January, a month after applying that we would cancel and have still not heard anything..
Does anyone have any experiences of Tiscali or know of a freephone or regular priced number that I can speak to someone on. Time is running out before I have NO INTERNET CONNECTION at all and I need it for work! thanks...
or any advice on who to go to now, as if that experience of Tiscali customer service is the norm I dont want to be with them anyway!

  • best advice i can give is cancel and go elsewhere, and think yourself lucky for the narrow escape. plenty of decent ISPs out there, tiscali isn't one of them.
dslzoneuk users rate tiscali's CS as 2.9/10 (speed 3.7/10), so your experience is the norm!

thanks Tonyhague, can you post a link to that site so I can seek an alternative please!

entering your details in samknows will give basic info for which services are available to you. in the LLU column seriously consider sky. be, o2, and avoid aol, talktalk, tiscali etc. most isps will be available to you.

  • bin tiscali they are rubbish. i have just changed to another isp and would never go back to them.

still plenty of alternatives available, you can check theoretical connection speed here
post your result, and your requirements (low pig for gameplaying, unthrottled for p2p, low/high usage etc.) for sensible advice.
taking this long to connect suggests there may be a fault on your line, and tisc are dragging their heels at getting bt to sort it out, but the first advice still stands, leave now while you can.

GOSH its all getting a bit technical now lol.. all thats needed is wireless connection with a decent speed for music and movies, the odd game here and there, mainly just general internet surfing and emails..wanted a broadband and phone package, hopefully with no extra line rental so just one bill, hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for any help you can offer! have already canceled DD with Tiscali and informed them and the bank in writing, wanted to tell them exactly where to stick it.. but (contrary to popular belief) I am a lady!
  • but (contrary to popular belief) I am a lady!
your avatar suggests differently. female - yes, lady -??? ;)

what do you mean by decent speed for music and movies? how would you get the movies, download? how many a month? sorry, it does get complicated if you chose a provider based upon your needs rather than lowest price :(
..but you do end up happier :)

lol at your ref to my avatar!.. moving swiftly on....
would like to be able to occasionally download movies (havent tried yet!) and do occasionally (prob will be more often) download music, anything above 4 meg I am looking at, they say up to 8 but I never get it! did I say I also am looking to get phone package included..and a free wireless router... well a girl can want cant she!?! sorry to be a pain! ;-)
  • wouldn't be my first choice, but i like to keep bills separate, and i never use my home phone, so bundling not important to me, but plusnet package 2 at £25/month should cover you. they have a very strict, but published fair use policy showing that downloading films/music via the usualroutes is heavily restricted during the peak times, but unrestricted from midnight to 12pm, and most, if not all peer 2 peer applications include a scheduler so you could go to bed leaving the pc on and wake up to a new movie.

i'm sure someone with more knowledge of bundled services (i have none, just strong google-fu) will jump in with suggestions.
