She sounds a lot like the 'old lady upstairs' it'll only put more pressure on those around her who will end up being ill because of it. We called it the final straw when Grandma fell coming home from her flat after delivering her shopping, I just wish we'd known how much she'd been doing for her and for how long. Does sound like a cry for company possibly from this lady, or help, I'd do something ASAP if it was me in the same situation again.

Pigpen, oooo, heck, teenagers in trouble I guess, hope you find a keyboard soon, until then sure we can cope with you being a little 'dotty'

Well, I've done sweet FA since 7pm apart from put cardboard away (kids made a 'base'/mess), so I best get off my backside and get the kitchen tidied or I will be cursing myself in the morning.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • Mudbath, I've never been in that situation but I think I'd do something similar to what Lil_me suggested. Its a tough one for all concerned but its probably the best thing to do for your Mum's health and sanity which is your number one concern in this.
Michelle, behave yourself while your home alone, especially if you are anaemic or just dead tired. Have a chillin' w/end with Charlie, just pop on here to tell us you're resting or playing.
Hi stefejb! hope you're doing good things.
    Pigpen, is it morse code?

I've done nothing since I came home, I've not even made any food. I'm sooo lazy this evening. Tomorrow's another day.

I think pigpen has been posessed and she's trying to send us a message....I'm not getting it though is it 'the ebay aliens have landed???'
  • Hi all

tracyg - hope Ds is improved and poor doggy
boddy - what a shock for everyone about your neighbour. Wind has been awful here too
shell - sorry to hear your DDs not well and hope you aren't too unwell yourself
embb - hope work went well
tiamai_d - oh dear, not a good day. Poor you. :kisses3: it better! Bet the xbox hadn't been used for years anyway - boys and their toys! And if they're that bad, they should be in bed. You know what they say: Children get colds, men get flu and women..........get on with it!

BTW - The way to tell if someone really does have flu is to tell them there's a £20 note on the doorstep. If they can go to get it - they don;t have flu. ( times out of 10 people (mostly men) say things like "I've had a touch of flu", when they've really just had a nasty cold. It makes me so cross. And they'll be the ones who don't go for a flu jab!

Lil_me - hope the house is still intact. The wind had been bad here and there were cautions on the bridge but not as bad as up your way.

Rach - can't imagine that you'll have time to check, but once again I hpe you have the most special day tomorrow and that it's the first day of a wonderful marriage.

Ashbart - let me know if the mattress topper is any good. W have a nice mattress (Ikea), but a topper is supposed to lengthen the life of it. Actually we have two mattreses (Princess and the Pea) because we had nowhere safe and dry to store daughter's when she moved back home after she and fiance split up! BTW, I also bought some orthopaedic pillows. DS and I only ever use one pillow to sleep anyway and these are great, IMHO. They are very firm, and sort of don't give way under your head, so support your neck really well. OH won't even try one, preferring to bunch his pillows up in a nasty lump, then moans about neck ache.

    Zed42 - hope everyone's improving

Poohbear59 -hope he starts to improve soon, hard going for you and depression is very difficult to live with, whichever side of it you're on

jjef - diary sounds a good idea, thank you for that

Pigpen - don't get too SAD, we need you. Sunshine's just around the corner, saw my first snowdrops today :T and the other bulbs are starting to peep. If I could get the foster puppies rehomed, my garden might get some attention too!

Lil_me - what are you doing OU? I've got to do a teaching qualification now as my D32/33 or not enough as the job is involving more teaching sessions

Mudbath - ouch, hope DS's OK. Haggis - forgot the date!!! That's a difficult situation for your Mum. It will be hard, but your Mum and her neighbours will have to try to distance themselves. They could end up hurting themselves trying to assist her, if they have frail health themselves. If they have to go in, perhaps they could start saying they can't manage on their own and press the call buzzer for her. That way, the powers that be would realise the demands she is making on others and put the necessary plan of care in place to adequately support her. If she is in sheltered housing, which I'm assuming she may be because of the call buzzer, the warden or the on call is paid to support the residents where necessary. I'm glad to see you are planning to speak to the GP. After all, your main concern in all this is your own mother's health. Maybe I sound a bit harsh, but I've worked and trained in care since 1974, so I've seen, heard and done most of it!:rotfl:Your Mum's health is paramount, so that is definitely the right step to take.

Likklegibbon - what a great daughter. I'm sure your Mum and Dad will be fine with your help and support. It's a difficult thing to broach financial issues with anyone, let alone a family member. Don't overdo things sorting their house on top of your own commitments. My brother, sister and I had to empty Mum's place in two weeks last May and that was really hard work, on top of doing all the planning of the funeral. (yes, we did that all ourselves, but so many people said it was the best they'd ever been to, so we got that right for her - side tracking here, but we had two bearers in full Highland dress for her - she'd have loved it.) I don't half miss her - and Dad, 16 years earlier (bet he was getting fed up of keeping the kettle going waiting for her to arrive)!

This has turned into a very long post, trying to make sure I've not missed anyone. If I have, lots of hugs to everyone anyway. I've done very little since I came home from the meeting, as I'm shattered - first day back after a week off. DS made dinner and OH cleared up. I've done some washing though.:o Off to do a bit of knitting before bedtime.

Night night all. Hope you all sleep well, in spite of any poorlies, high winds and wandering haggises!

Boddy - sorry i've just read back and seen the news about your neighbour. Really sorry to hear and hugs to you.

Thanks Pink Fairy - she's in her own home with one of those neck panic buttons to get help. I've suggested that my mum and all the others start to press it more. Like you say, no one knows she's not coping and it can't carry on. My mum and another lady were phoned at 4am one morning to help her go to the toilet. It's very sad but they're not helping her by helping her if that makes sense.

I'm trying to cook this haggis - I'm sure DH normally boils them but this one says I have to steam it. Scary! Do you add anything to turnips when you mash them for the neaps? His plane has been delayed...do you think he'll still want this meal at 1130, lol. He can have it for breakfast xx

Finally caught up with the thread!

OH has gone slightly mad and ordered a laptop for himself and a new family computer....I just hope that he doesn't disconnect this one until I've saved all the important things I need to keep - which has happened twice before...

I have had a rather busy but very nice day. I managed some time in the garden, and spent it sorting out the top greenhouse. A window blew out with the last spell of bad weather (plastic, not glass pane), so I bodged a repair with a sheet of plastic and some tape, as I have no money until next Wednesday to buy the proper stuff. Then I threw out all the plants that were dead, and swept it out,and rearranged the rest of the plants, and the bulbs in pots. Green Flying!

Then, I rushed down town to move some money around, and had a sneaky zip round Boots - I bought that Olay cleanser too Dusty, but the till beeped and wouldn't let me have the 300 points as well as the £5 off - worth a try, it sometimes works!

I'm going to put my feet up and do a bit more knitting now!
It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be
  • No need for DH to worry about me with you lot to keep me in check is there. ;) Cheers for it though. It's nice to know you al care.

OK - mini plan for the weekend:
    • change our bed and the cot
    • read my magazine that came last week
    • watch DVD rental - was going to do tonight, but as i have been on phone to mum for an hour, didn't manage it
    • wash bedding
    • wash a load of DH's jumpers
    • book cattery dates for weekends away and the holiday in august that i know about
    • pay credit card bill
    • take charlie to feed ducks
    • visit sister so boys can run around in garden together and get energy burnt off
    • visit mums on sunday so boys can run around together and burn some energy off (spotting a pattern here .... :rotfl: dots so pigpen doesn't feel too special.)
    • mark y8 books
    • mark y10 books
    • mark y9 books - will do marking while watching film i hope
    • plan lessons for next week
I noticed our snowdrops are out today as well - so hold on pigpen, the spring will be with you in east yorkshire soon.

i am about to hang up a load of washing, make my hot water bottle and get in bed so i am fresh-ish for in the morning as there will be no DH so i won't be able to pretend i didn't hear charlie.

Looking forward to being around lots with you all though without interuptions.

Michelle - that list is very long! I'm sure others will agree that it needs cutting down a bit or we'll all have to tell you off and you don't want that do you. If you are going to do it all make sure you do it very slowly and make sure you take lots of breaks. Enjoy your weekend xx
