Just a suggestion, but perhaps those of us that are unhappy with the "ruling" of stopping the "ending comp" threads should all post our concerns on one thread, perhaps this would voice our opinion on this with greater influence

Perhaps posting on this "sticky" thread would be an option http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=8770239#post8770239 :confused::confused:

I am very new to to this so please forgive me! I have just received a call to say that I had a chance of a £300 makeover-in Covent Garden!!! :j How fantastic I thought, I've not been entering comps long and I have won a fab prize. The lady gave me all the spiel until she said VERY QUICKLY that I would have to pay £49 for the photo. Then the killer:huh: I would have to pay £99.98 upfront by credit card to reserve/hold (refundable if I turn up on the fixed appoitnment) my 'appointment' and then she said what was the expiry date on my card!! I can't tell you how disappointed I feel. From thinking I will look fab for once in my life to feeling well a bit rubbish. There were so many people in the background it sounded like a call centre and not someone ringing from there office in Covent Garden. :embarasse When I said that I would have to speak to my husband first before parting with £100 it all started to get a bit frosty. She will hold the possible chance of the makeover until tomorrow but no later. And to think I stopped my twins bed time story to answer the call:embarasse Has anyone else heard of these people? It has kind of put me off entering comps if this is what happens.

Hi all, I'm really just looking for any useful advice you can give me on some comping trouble I've been having.

Back in July 07 I won a competition with a regional newspaper worth around £700 and I was very happy! They sent through the confirmation letter, and I waited for my prize - but it never materialised. By September when I still hadn't heard I contacted the paper. They said they would look into it. They didn't get back to me. By January when I still hadn't had any proper answer I started to phone them regularly - and finally they accepted that I hadn't received my prize, this was dreadful and they said they would find a replacement.

They have offered us several laughable options all of substantially lower value - and we have rejected all of them - but this is where the real problem is - it has emerged that these replacement prizes which we were offered were in fact the prizes from currently publicised competitions - and the promotions department intended to 'pick us as the winners'.

Now, this is completely against my morals - and I wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of any competition laws which this may be in conflict with? I really am not happy with accepting a prize from a paper which runs these practices and intend to make a formal complaint to the editor - so any expert knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all x

  • I recently also had tremendous help from the Advertising Standards Authority. They kept right up with contact with the prize supplier when it hadn't arrived after almost 12 months. The ISP weren't a great help in my case.

I hope you may have a copy of the original promotion as this may strengthen your case? If not original emails notifying of prize value of win etc from them will be almost as good.

Good luck. I really appreciate how stressful this can end up being but stick to your resolve and it'll come up trumps in the end.

  • Apologies for posting this as a competitions thread, but it is related to competitions, and is on a subject that has raised a lot of feedback and opinions on here -

I have thought this through and it seems like it may work

What if on 1st March a thread is posted with the title "Competitions Ending 3/08" and all the daily "competitions ending listings" for the month are posted in the same thread - this would keep the board tidy and anyone wanting to use the thread could trawl through the thread to get the days they wanted (would possibly be easier than searching for individual "competitions ending" postings sperad over several pages).
A new thread could be started on 1st of each month keeping the board much tidier and we could still have the comps ending lists we have grown to love -

    what do you think?

  • Not a bad idea but that would cause a problem for me. Some competitions I like to keep an eye on and subscribe to the thread. If it were to be done that way I would not be able to pick out individual comps. Also it would be extremely hard to follow comments/follow ups on any 1 comp.
  • Sub forums could be created 1 for each month ie February ending comps, March ending comps etc etc.
