To get a ban of that he would likely need to be 3 or more times over the limit

You can try and justify it all you want but he was drunk as a skunk and is lucky not to have killed someone

People like you shouldnt be allowed to drive as your trying to turn an absolutly disgusting offence into something trivial
To get a ban you need to be 1 times over the limit.
You can post as much rubbish as you like, but "he was drunk as a skunk" has no factual basis. How do you know that the OP's son "is lucky not to have killed someone"?
    Happy chappy

Don't stop using this site needtoearnmoremoney. It's just that some people need to vent their own inadequacies by being holier than thou. Iamthespartestmanalive obviously isn't the smartest man alive.

Iamthebiggistprattalive has a history of doing this in other threads, he makes posts with no factual back up, critising people he has no clue about.

I'm sure he is the perfect citizen, never broken a single law, or a single speed limit.

Courts have rough guidelines though and a simple narrowly over the limit with no aggravating factors would get 12 months in most cases, likewise twice the limit is normally aboutn 18 months

So either he got a very harsh finding or was significantly over, I dont like the OPS manner either as she keeps trying to justify the scumbag behaviour

OP, if you are still there then what about ditching the car idea and getting your son another scooter? I'd imagine the insurance will be a lot cheaper and he would still be mobile.

PS the OP is defending her son - thats what mums do, she never said what he did was right, big or clever.

Nicely sidestepping the moral indignation, I'll say that a friend of mine (no, really, it was!) was banned for some time for drink driving, as well as leaving the scene of an accident (and there might have been more offences, but I really can't remember), and has just returned to the road.

He's well above the age range of your son, but picked himself up a £500 family saloon and is paying something in the region of £800 for third party insurance.

The only advice I can really give is to buy as low an insurance group car as possible, for as little money as possible, and spend a lot of time (and that might mean days!) searching for insurance online, on the phone and in person.

  • Well i say good luck to the lad, he made a mistake, crikey so have i, its part of growing up.

Some posters here have remarkable dexterity in their joints, as they can operate a keybord whilst floating 3 feet in the air and balance their halo, criticising other less perfect mortals with holier than thou wise words and all at the same time.

The lads done his punishment, so give him a break.

As some have said, get quotes from a decent broker for group 1 or 2 cars, and encourage him to be jolly careful and build his ncd back up.

Got to go find my halo now.
  • well my first year of driving was a killer just coz i was young so no dout having a drinking driving ban will double the price. there is no excuse for drink driving, and i personally think any one caught should be banned for life.

try a company called quinn-direct im with them they are very cheap to insure and with a dd conviction might be ideal for you

Have you thought of PAYD, I think Norwic Union do a policy that you pay for per mile driven. Also some companies do 10-month years so after 10 months you gain a years no claims bonus.

May be worth phoning the existing insurer as his previous no-claims record may be there to be used.
