You do not get 20 months for " a few pints"
If he was barely over the limit its the standard 12 months
20 months suggests a long way over or other aggravating factors
does it really matter? the law delt with the lad, that should be good enough for anyone.
We've all done things that *could* put lives at risk, wether it be driving a bit tired, using your mobile phone while driving, not having water in your reservoir to clean your windows... etc.
Lets move on and stop hijacking the thread.0 -

I rarely drink and I won't drink anything at all if there's any possibility that I'll need to drive.
the op didnt ask for the moral high ground,he was only asking advise for his son,im sure as most fathers would he has already passed on how silly he had been.
if you didnt6 have anything to add to what the op was asking then you shouldnt have posted.
as other have said regardless of what car it is you will be paying a hefty premium.try a small engined car with a good safety record to at least try and help a bit....work permit granted!0 -
no point buying any car until you know how much insurance will be,you need to find those in the cheapest insurance groups, then get quotes on an imaginary car in those groups0

I am not being economical with the truth as has been suggested above,
He had been drinking heavily the night before and not eaten, then had 3 pints during the day he was stopped but again had not eaten. ( and no I am not making excuses for him though he was in a fairly fragile emotional state at the time), He is very thin build which apparently affects the rate at which alcohol leaves the body.
when stopped he had been at a friends house for over an hour (not drinking) and had in fact only driven about 100 yards when caught up in a police road block on all 4 arms of a crossroads - associated with a major crime - so was not stopped as a result of an accident or for killing anyone (as has been suggested in a previous post).
whilst i accept that this is a very emotive issue I have been astounded by the amount of abuse I have received.
If I went onto a board and told people being evicted for non-payment of rent despite receiving HB or for being thousands of pounds in debt that they should not have asked for help because it was their own fault they are in the situation I would have been hounded from the site. (and i know that you will respond that they would not be killing anyone.)
I will be making no further posts on this matter or anything else on the site as I have decided that MSE is obviously not for me.0 -
Discussion forums are about different peoples views and opinions, if you don't like what you see, don't read it.
The above quote sums it up nicely...
Think you will find you posted a question on an emotive topic and received replies from folk who have been on the other side of drunk drivers... If you are naive enough to think your post would not illicit such replies then perhaps internet forums are not the place for you...
"(and i know that you will respond that they would not be killing anyone.)"... well you said it!!
Cheerio anyhow...0 -
as for cars.i would go for even cheaper than the likes of puntos, fiestas as these are used by young boy racer types(not all though lol)
maybe the likes of an old school fiat panda.
very cheap to run and insure.
limit the policy and mileage where possible
take a high excess though i doubt he will have much choice.
drink driving is sen by insurers as a high risk of reofence so the next few years will be costly0 -

To get a ban of that he would likely need to be 3 or more times over the limit
You can try and justify it all you want but he was drunk as a skunk and is lucky not to have killed someone
People like you shouldnt be allowed to drive as your trying to turn an absolutly disgusting offence into something trivial0 -
needtoearnmoremoney wrote: »could a moderator please remove this thread for me please. I have found the personal insults / comments/ holier than thou attitude on the thread I posted in the insurance forum so upsetting that I feel that the hurt they are causing is unhelpful.
I cannot believe that my son is the only person in this situation and who has made one mistake yet many of the posts are so judgemental.
Whatever you (or I) do or don't think about what happened he needs to be able to move on with his life and I was simply asking for help.
Is there anything i can do to remove the thread?
personaly if i were you i would not even bother to entertain the posts that are about criticising your son at the end of the day he did the crime and did the time and hopfuly he will learn from his mistake
it seems that lately on here people forget what the post for help is about and just jump straight on to the bad points even judge or make you out to be liers
i myself really do not condone drink driving but everyone makes mistakes in there life in some kind of form and if you can say that you have not you are probably lying
as for the car you are probably best of to go for a cheap low insurance group with a low engine size something like a old fiesta or something just to get him on the road as next year it will probably drop failing this if you are goint to contact his old insurer ask them what car would make his premium lower they will either be willing to help or not
dont want to cause a riot but the op did not drink drive she simpily came and asked for advice and got knocked down come on i thought this site was supposed to be about helping each other out not rowing and insulting0 -
If I was him I would not bother with insurance, tax or mot as if he gets caught the fine will be less than the above costs.0

Don't stop using this site needtoearnmoremoney. It's just that some people need to vent their own inadequacies by being holier than thou. Iamthespartestmanalive obviously isn't the smartest man alive.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
