Is there anything i can do to remove the thread?

You may have started this thread but you don't own it. Discussion forums are about different peoples views and opinions, if you don't like what you see, don't read it. Why post the same question again?

  • Fine - I will assume that I will get no help from MSE merely righteous indignation.

what what I would say is that it's interesting that the only time I ask for advice i'm not getting advice just a series of 'holier than thou', sanctimonius viewpoints from people who have probably not been faced with the same situation.

I have never condoned his actions, and if it comes to that neither has he - he could actually have been driving again nearly 6 months ago.

However, I think if people have nothing positive to say why bother - or is there a perverse pleasure in 'having a go'? Adopting an 'outraged of Tunbridge Wells' attitude possibly makes one feel good.

I would however ask the question for how many people is it a case of 'there but for the grace of god'

Both questions were posed at the same time as I wasn't sure which was the best forum

1:Look at buying the car with the lowest insurance group you can find- fiat punto, nissan micra, poverty spec fiesta, skoda favorit/felicia, that sort of thing. The key here is to get mobile as cheaply as possible. 5 years after his ban the insurance companies cannot penalise your son.

2:Buy a copy of one of the boy-racer car mags such as "Max Power/Redline/Fastcar as they carry many ads for specialist insurers who deal with convicted drivers- these insurance companies will look at the risk and take a chance thinking "Big premium-big profit".

3:Try a couple of brokers; they may come up trumps.

    How true.

If you went onto the debt boards, and told posters that it was their own stupid fault for getting into debt, then you would be shot down in flames.

The OP came with a genuine question asking for help, and lots of people did not offer it, just shot him down for daring to ask. We all know drink driving is wrong and dangerous, most all all the OP and his son, is it really neccesary to persecute them any more?
  • The op wants advise, the op is not the drink driver, way way way back in the sixties many people used to drink and drive, then it became a no no.

I think as the lad has served his ban, will pay huge amounts of insurance for a while, will not get a job driving ,if he wanted one and will probably never drink and drive again ,he has been punished enough.

He was lucky he did not hurt anyone so i would say what others have to the op,buy a group one car and shop around for the cheapest quote,GOOD LUCK

I can't believe some people. I think that w can all agree that drink driving is very bad and that people caught should be punished and that is what happened to the OP's son. However a punishment for this offence does not last forever, people deserve a second chance.

He has served his ban and now is coming back to the roads so quite rightly the OP wanted advice on how to do that in the cheapest way.
  • Yeah my mates nearly at the end of his 1 and half year ban and he aint looking forward to getting insurace quotes either.

To be honest anything he goes for is going to an absolute fortune, of course something with a low insurace catagory as possiable is going to be his best option.

Here is some info to give you a rough idea.

getting into debt doesnt kill people drink drivers do ask my dad sorry you cant he was killed by a drink driver
  • The OP is clearly being economical with the facts

You do not get 20 months for " a few pints"

If he was barely over the limit its the standard 12 months

20 months suggests a long way over or other aggravating factors

He did not for various personal reasons manage to complete the rehabilitation course.
    He currently has no car.
I don't know how it works, but maybe a 12 month ban includes attending rehabilitation course, he didn't finish that, hence 20 month ban.

How are you helping the OP, who has already said that they have received a lot of abuse?

    From http://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/crimedrinkdriving.htm
Driving/Attempting to Drive with excess alcohol (DR10)
Penalty - Fine - up to Level 5 (£5,000) and/or up to 6 months imprisonment
Mandatory disqualification for at least 12 months for first offence
