If you leave the handle sticking out with your name label on you should be able to find your case :)

think about if !!!!!! in the 70's maybe but now there is more security in airports than nasa and no one wants your shight anyway

Im suprised someone with as many posts as you made such a stupid comment.

In the past 5 years lets go over a small list of things that have gone missing from my suitcase:

Motorola mobile phone (ok that was my mums case but we were flying together)
Straighteners (again same flight with my mum)

Nokia mobile phone + charger (cheeky !!!!!!!s didnt even want to buy there own charger.

    Laptop

    500g cutters choice tobacco

    Bottle of wine

That was in 3 seperate flights. Phone and straighteners on one. Phone and charger on another and laptop, tobacco and wine on another.

I do fly quite regularly but still.

Anyone would think its the 70's eh nelly!

Plus, bet they were quite happy with my '!!!!!'

Baggage pilfering is still a big issue -check out any of the traveller's/airline forums on the net to see.
As for bags getting damaged-I wouldn't buy expensive bags now-had too many scraped- in fact most of my bags are replacements from various American carriers given to me on arrival when I've complained (and nicer than the originals)

IMHO ..... The only good reasons I can see for cling filming a bag is to protect the bags contents from spewing out all over the place, to deter theft and to prevent water or liquid damage to the bags contents if the bag is not waterproof then left on a wet runway or a.n.other person has liquids that leak onto your luggage in the hold..... and that can be very easily prevented by buying good quality hard shell luggage with clasps that lock and a combination lock.

The shell of the above protects the contents, the locks deter (but won't stop) theft, and if using going to/from the US you don't lock the clasps and make a note of the combination number on the suitcase right next to the combination lock.

Yes with use it's going to get scraped and scuffed to hell and show the telltale signs of impact stress marks in the material, but what do folk really expect to happen? ..... And who gives a damn about the appearance of the case?

If luggage gets damaged, it gets damaged and you claim for it..... Just as long as the damage is to the handles, wheels, etc and not the kind of damage that sees your luggage contents appear on the carousel in a plastic bag, then damage is acceptable and comes with the territory. :)

    Interesting thread !

I don't wrap on the whole, except when I am departing / arriving from a country such as Bangkok or Columbia. Guess I've seen so many 'Banged up Abroads' that I don't want someone putting something IN my case and then stealing the whole bag at the destination with the smuggled drugs inside. Not paranoid, as travelling on your own can attract a lot of attention.

To solve the backpack straps problem, I suggest this

    http://www.pro-tector.co.uk/rucksack.html

And to and from the USA I have those special locks that they can open and close without the combination / breaking them.

Each to their own I suppose

Things like laptops cant always be carried as hand luggage when you are looking after kids etc... and need their stuff to hand not the laptop.

Also, it doesn't matter what i had or did not have in my suitcase. My point remains that people DO still steal from bags. They didnt know there was a laptop or phone in the bag. They were going in there anyway and thats what they found. God knows how many times they had searched someones bag found nothing worth nicking and putting everything back until the next back comes along they can steal from.

I have more than once had things stolen from our luggage, FACT!!
Now we have TSA straps that we lock but the TSA bods in most countries have a master key to. I know that it's possible to have the key cloned but these days with the limited amount of hand luggage you can take on board, it is not always possible to keep all your valuables with you, so I guess you have to do all you possibly can to keep it safe.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • After having 2 expensive suitcases ruined, I now buy a £20 argos case and if it gets damaged, just replace it at the airport.

All airports carry suitcases and will just give you the new one for your old one. Easy to swop stuff from the damaged one into the new one. Saves on claiming insurance etc.

    No claim forms to complete
