Spraying tom cat threatening deposit - help!

  • Firstly, neutered cats can still spray, so don't assume that he hasn't been.

Secondly, please don't throw him in a bath of cold water. It's cruel and you run the risk of getting seriously scratched in the process.

To get rid of cat spray, try cleaning the area with biological washing powder diluted in warm water. The enzymes break down the smell.

Please don't do that, it could make the cat ill. A simple water gun should do the trick!

    On your nads OK ;)

You can tell if a male cat is done anyway, they either have two danglers (or in my cats case one) sticking out, or they don't

What is it with the British and pets?!!!

The Tom is p*ssing on the babies bed and other places that young children are in contact with and risk serious disease......but all that is said in the main is about not being cruel to the cat???!!!! Daft beyond belief.

I just think there can be kinder ways to sort the problem, water pistol would have more of an effect.

Have you tried to put a cat in a bath? her arms would be ripped to shreads. And a cat being soaked through, and going out in this cold weather is deadly.

If it were me I would knock on a few doors to find the cats owner and have a word!

Cheers all - am going to trap it and throw it in a cold bath, as per another poster's suggestion on the pets board. it's a shame as he's a lovely cat (even chases the local resident fox away when he sees it), but just now VERY antisocial. Bloomin' irresponsible owners! Hope it pees in their shoes :):)

I hope you are not serious about throwing the cat in a cold bath - that would be an extremely cruel thing to do. Why don't you just get a cat flap with a magnetic tag for your cat – one that would ensure that only your cat could get in through the flap?
  • Staywell magnetic catflaps wont necessarily keep him out, certainly not if he is really keen to get in. We have one, and 3 cats, they kept loosing their collars and I got fed up buying the replacement magnets which are about £5 each, so I stopped, thinking they could go back to being let in by me. All three quickly found that if they pushed the flap hard enough it opens anyway!!
  • I had a tom cat who was neutered and still sprayed. i reckon the spraying on his part was a attention/jealousy thing as he sprayed in front of the telly and would pee on the bed (disgusting I know). I asked at the vet if anything could be done and he gave me a spray - well he didnt realy give it if i remember correctly it cost around £9. This did work though as I would spray it in front of the telly and over the bed each time i changed the covers and it seemed to work. It seemingly neutralises any previous scent which is hard to get rid of with regular cleaning products.
