they have been fitting Ideal Logic HE combi 24 boilers which are prone to major problems, i.e., this is a badly manufactured product and very likely the worst boiler in the country, failures of which include PCB's, ignitor electrodes regularly warp and prevent the boiler from lighting. The gasket on the heat engines fail causing water leaks. The condensate trap needs to be cleaned regularly or it blocks with metal shavings from the badly cast heat engine. It is also far too noisy. The other problems are too numerous to mention. QUOTE]

    i heard a similar comment , although i do have a combi 30 installed.

the comment i heard from the team was the boiler above the Ideal one had a 5yr warranty but was £50 more.

i can vouch for the noisy, especially the needle on the pressure guage, but more so heating up part, re breakdown well in theory its on a 2yr guarantee so lets wait and see.

seems every one ( of the trade) has different ideas on how to do stuff.

It all well and good to save, but pretty hard for a lot of people to scrape together £4000 as it was in my case. Of course a private installer probably woudlnt have charged that, and woudl have actually put heating in my kitchen, and maybe not wrecked at least 2 floorboards, or ruined skirting board, or left a hole in ceiling or left it so the condensate pipe had to be replaced twice or the 8 lockshield valves replaces twice, or a radiator replaced for a bigger one, or left pipes sticking out in airing cupboard, or in the loft, the list goes on.

LOL maybe perhaps all this type of works is acceptable and i am in a minority wanting a job done properly, i can see how doing it the way it was done it can be done quickll;y and the way i want it done takes more time

all that means of course is I have to now redo all the stuff they didnt take time doing.

We've had a similar experience to palman's Dad. We had our boiler replaced in January 2007, all the work done in one day by 2 guys who really grafted and left all clean, tidy and working.

Subsequently, in spite of 2 hard winters, we've been toasty. Everything works fine.

The boiler is an Ideal and we had it sited where we wanted, in the loft.

Ideal is a company that has been in business for many years, can't see why their boiler is the 'worst'. Ours works fine. We get the hot water we want - enough for a shower each every morning, washing machine 2 or 3 times a week, heating works fine.

  • My daughter had a new boiler and flue installed by Warm front 5 years ago, she is a single mum with 2 Autistic sons. This has now broken down. BG was called out for a one-off repair and they have condemned the whole system.

The flue was wrongly installed and is dangerous. Water from the flue has dripped onto the fan which has blown the PCB. BG will do a temporary repair which will cost 400 odd quid but she needs a new boiler and flue, which is going to be £900 for fitting alone plus the cost of boiler and flue.

Does she have any come-back? BG say this system has been unsafe since it was fitted! Surely there must be some way of getting redress.

The boiler was an Ideal ISA HE 24.

Warm front should be ashamed, they are installing absolute rubbish systems in an unsafe manner in the homes of vulnerable people.

having done my own research the best boiler on the market at this time is the Worcester 24i Greenstar condensing combi.

That is the exact make of boiler that Warmfront fitted in my home.

lucky person, before i realised i was eligable for a grant i was looking at the worcester 38, as i am looking at having the shower plumbed in, i suspect highly unlikely i can do it with this 28 even though they say i can. just dont turn on the downstairs taps or flush the loo whilst having a shower

i have to throw at least a sink full of water away as it is, it takes that long to get hot.

I have to do that too if I don't have the boiler maintain a small local supply of hot water at all times (they is a button to turn this feature on/off).

But I am surprised that Warmfromt don't insist on the use of boilers, that don't supply any water to hot taps until the water is heated first. That may result in a few seconds delay, but it saves wasting heat and water.

not all unsafe, our installers had to change the location of the boiler slightly to be safe , no probs,
it seems most is down to whichever install team you get

well i am well aware of the cold water in pipes you have to wait for it to go, but both my sinks ( kitchen and bathroom are both about 4ft away from boiler) plus when it gets hot it then goes cold before staying hot. I am also aware of the preheat option, sorta works until the chamber is empty

i was so used to instant hot water before from a cylinder
