my mum used to do a christmas log for us kids as well!

She had this mangy ol' fabric robin decoration that she used to stick on it!
Of course we knew it wasn't real, nor were tree logs really made out of chocolate! My sister learnt both those lessons the hard way! lol

We are another family who don't really like traditional christmas cake. We always have a chocolate christmas log and normally have this on the 21 Dec to celebrate the old pagan traditions and for the day itself we have a gateau and i also make a greek honey cake which is lovely.

Has anyone made a fabric advent calendar?
I'd like to get one each for my children but they seem expensive so I wondered if anyone has made one or has seen any that don't cost alot?

we have one of these for each of our 3 children, but they where all brought as a gift by a family friend.

I know there are some cheaper ones out there, have you looked at the studio catalogue they may have some.

Do you cross-stitch? As you can make a nice one that way.

Otherwise just get a large peice of felt, some material which you cut into little rectangles/squares to the size you want and just stitch them onto the felt, you could add something to the sqaures like numbers or buttons and so on, then just attach a tiny width wooden rod to the top and attach some rope/ braid to either end so it can be hung up.

Sorry if I haven't explained it too well.

The Book People usually sell lucky dips before Christmas which are great for toddlers stocking fillers. Its usually 10 books for £10 but cheaper if you buy 2 lucky dips (maybe 20 books for £15).

I was thinking of buying a lottery ticket for each member of the families, and putting these inside a nice (possibly hand made) card and putting them inside their hampers that I'm making? Maybe someone will get lucky!

I did this last year, no one won, but they all loved the idea. I'm going to put one in my thankyou cards from my wedding as well.

well I hope I get the winning one :)

I just thought it was something a bit quirky and different, plus a little bit of anticipation carried over!

Great idea to put them in the thankyou cards though!
