I find it helps to 'save' ordinary groceries throughout the year so you don't have to do a 'basics' shop in December. I keep a plastic crate in a cupboard and each time I do a big shop I put a few things away ie: a jar of coffee, a toilet roll, tin of cat food.etc. - all the boring things. For BOGOF's, put the spare one in the crate. Every time I open a box of dishwasher tablets I put a couple in a plastic bag in the crate, the same with T bags. etc By the time Dec. comes I don't need much basic stuff and can spend the shopping money on Christmas goodies and luxuries.:T
Ps - obviously need to watch use by dates - start off with tins etc !

Like the idea, i think i will get my self a crate and start my christmas shopping now !!!!!!!!

Love it part where i can spend a bit more on Chirstmas Goodies and luxuries.
Hoping that when I start looking after the pennies, and the pounds will take care of them selves :j
  • I just love this thread, now I've so many ideas I'm bursting. The only thing is finding enough people they are right for!!!!!

wishing i had that problem rather than finding the right ideas for people :rotfl:

i wrote a list of stocking filler ideas for OH last night. im enjoying this far too much :D it means i can start to pick bits up whilst im out and about over the summer though, less work to do later in the year then.

im going to order a boots voucher from pigsback soon, so that i can stock up on smellies for his stocking when they are on bogofs and 3 for 2s (shaving foam, razor blades, shower gel, aftershave balm etc)

Is it just me that has a family that wouldn't appreciate home made gifts? It's all materilistic in my family, and OH insists we spend atleast 20 quid on each of his family members (6 in total) but the 20 quid often rises to 40quid!

I'd love home made soaps, foods, presents etc!

I made my mum and her bloke a "cosy night in" basket last year which had a popcorn maker, 2 miniture liquor bottles with tumblers, mini box of hero's and celebrations and a DVD, all in a basket and wrapped with celephane and a BIG bow! she actually liked it which suprised me!

DEBT FREE for the first time in 10 years and with savings!

    1st Baby due May 2011 :o it's a BOY:j

thats what we did for B&SIL. we signed them up for a gift dvd rental subscription (there was a promo on for bonus clubcard points at the time :D) and bought them popcorn, chocs, and a nice bottle of vino.

it was nice to give such a well received gift. they're hard to buy for because we're not especially close to them and they are a bit more fashion concious/materialistic than us. it feels really impersonal giving ikea vouchers (which is what we've given them in the past) so it was nice to find a unique idea that worked. might do the same again this christmas

I love this idea, i did the same for my best mate last xmas, filled a wicker basket with a mini bottle of wine, small box of chocs, travel size bath foam, bodywash and body lotion from Boots 'Fresh' range (used my saved up advatage points), a sachet with a face mask and another with a deep hair conditioner and the latest 'chick lit' book. The idea was that when her DP was out and her DS was in bed she could have time to pamper herself with all the things - she loved it :)

This year i'm not getting Boyf a main present, i'm filling a stocking for him with lots of little bits cos hes a big kid but his mam doesn't do him a stocking lol. I'm starting now with little bits and pieces that i see and by Xmas i'll have it done and wont have missed a few £££ here and there.

Keep thinking about Chrimbo, but can't quite bring myself to it yet. July's normally my time to get going.

Got so annoyed last year though that I'm dreading this year

Leni I know what you mean, most of my family would destest a HM prezzie

Being a bit selfish too as I need all the cash I can get to be able to buy a flat! I shall do my bit in the kitchen as always, making sweets, cakes and the main dinner.
