When I worked out what we really need compared to what I bought it was astonishing! I still have booze left, we were eating salted nuts in March and last years christmas pudding is now sat in the cupboard waiting for this yearOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
We still have the obligatory box of biscuits too.
Actually that reminds me - I've already got store cupboard essentials. Last Xmas I bought two huge jars of mincemeat (bogof) and opened neither. Looks like mince pies for the next couple of years are sorted out.The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
I started getting organised after last Christmas. I don't tend to buy pressies early (as the kids are older now and change their mind 1000 times!! I sooo miss Early Learning Centre!!) But, they do tend to 'request' (read 'want') more expensive items.
In order for that to happen we have opened a 'named' savings account with Halifax (Christmas fund) and every time hubby gets paid some goes into that. Also, my butcher has a 'savings club' so I save £1 a week with him so thats the meat sorted. Save Tesco points and also M and S points from CC (although sometimes want to spend iton myself). Also, building on the 'meat saving' idea I got two jam jars, duct-taped lids on, created slots and am filling them up with £1 each week - these are 'food' and 'drink'. Won't cover all of it, but will go towards the bill.
Already worked out a couple of years ago that we don't need loads of food and drink - we go for quality over quantity these days, and everyone appreciates it. Make own cake (October half term) and puddings (make two and save one for the next year).
My target this year is to make nearest and dearest handmade cards - the really nice ones cost so much in the shops and I am sure I can do just as good a job! Will be looking at indexed threads for ideas on this.

Thanks for the reminder! I better start saving/shopping soon. My DS is 2 on New Year's Eve and I a SAHM so we've not got as much money to spend on treats this year. I'm going to keep an eye out for the sales - let's just hope the recipients don't want to exchange their gifts if they were bought months earlier.
BTW newbie on this thread, sorry I didn't introduce myself, how rudeCos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
:hello: Welcome mollymunchkin
My dd's b/day is New Years day (my mother was Boxing Day plus dh and his father were 30th Dec and my eldest son 3rd Jan) so I can understand the gift pressure so soon after Christmas. It took a bit of forward planning and fast footed shopping to make sure I could make their birthdays special. I keep a gift cupboard anyway, which I add to throughout the year so it spreads the cost (and wrapping!) After Christmas sales are a fantastic time to get the gifts too and just in time for giving~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This year I have been paying £10 a month for some vouchers from Variety Christmas Club but for next year I am going to open an ING Account so I get some interest in the cash while I am saving it.
I love Christmas, only 6.5mths to go...........................Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0
