Sorry I dont have time to read through this at the moment, I only logged on to see if I could find an idea for dessert tonight,, too many pages to read just now, but it caught my eye., just wanted to let members know how I'm saving for christmas this year. Please forgive me if this idea has already been mentioned. I get my child benefit put into a post office account, the ones that you can only draw cash from, not deposit. I have 2 kids, cant remember how much goes in every 4 weeks off the top of my head, but think its about £117. I take £25 out each week, and the rest is my christmas savings. I started doing this last year and after dipping in a few times, had about £60 for my shopping at christmas. So far this year, I've saved £41.Hopefully I'll be better organised during the year to be able to leave this alone and have lots more cash to spend this year.

~I'm saving for Christmas too!! I bought a moneybox from a local home and bargain store for £1 - it is one of those ones which you can only open with a tin opener and which you can't shake any money out of either!! I am putting all my £2 coins into it whenever I get them and whenever I go to the bank I ask for £10 of whatever I am getting in £2 coins and put them in when I get home. I reckon that the tin will hold at least 500 £2 but don't expect to save that many!!! I am also saving all my Boots advantage points too.

Thats a good idea Jane, your way, you cant be tempted to dip into it. Might see if I can find a money box like this.

  • I've started a "Christmas Fund" with my mum. We each save £5 a week x 50 weeks. This should give us £250 each.
I've opened a savings account and set up a direct debit of £10 to come off every Friday.
Trying really hard this year not to be surprised when Christmas arrives!!!
Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D

Some great ideas there! Hadn't really thought about Xmas yet, but have seen a few toys at half price in Asda at the minute, like Jedi spacecrafts and Weebles villages, and am going to buy these to hide, goodness knows where! Those draft excluders sound great, would they be easy for someone who can only do knit a row, pearl a row!?
Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))

I knitted loads of scarves last year, some as pressies, some I sold, I made £80 which helped a lot with christmas. I'm very lucky as we buy very few Christmas pressies, about 9 altogether. We have a Secret Santa at work which is £5, We buy a small gift for hubby's parents usually spend £5 on each of them. I buy something for each of my 4 children, last year, I gave them a 'Have a nice night in Box' they cost approx £10 each. My grandson is under 2 & so easily pleased, also his other Grandparents spend megabucks on him so nothing I give can compete. For his Bday this year I've bought him a book & a car that cost approx £5, his other grandparents have paid for him & his parents to go to Disneyland for a week!!!, lol. As I said I can't compete. I'm still knitting scarves, but am doing a different style now, so hoping to sell more this year.
I'm going to do the 'box of balloons' is saw on here for my grandson this Christmas & hopefully by next year he'll be old enough to appreciate a batman or superman cloak.

I have about £240 pounds saved so far (£10 a week), £30 of gift cards for tescos, £60 of vouchers for argos and £17.50 in tesco clubcard vouchers. First time i have ever done any saving for christmas. Any money that is left over will go in the rainy day savings account.
