At last I have read through this thread from start to finish. Yous are all doing soooooo well with your Christmas planning. So far we have some gift sets, Christmas cards, wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, Christmas crackers, poppers. We have saved weekly from last Christmas, a certain amount goes out of our account by standing order every Monday and into an ING account called Christmas, no excuses for not knowing what the money is for!! Lol! We are saving our Tesco vouchers, not they will add up to much but every little helps! We have about £90+ in points to use at Boots. Going to make some sweets, I have bought the bags and paper to wrap them in earlier this year.

As well as Christmas being in December we have my brother in laws birthday on the 6th, my sisters birthday on the 7th & would have been hubbys Fathers birthday as well, our nieces 14th birthday & our nephews 4th birthday on the 20th, hubbys cousin and uncles birthdays on the 26th and sisters birthday on 29th. Then Grandads anniversary on 1st January and Father-in-laws anniversary on the 2nd of January.

Last year we bought our 4 nieces who were aged 4, 4, 11 and 13 and 1 of our nephews aged 4 cinema tickets and vouchers for a local adventure place and a few other things, we read the tip about the vouchers on here! They were delighted and asked can we have some for our birthdays. We didn’t think they would really understand but we explained best we could about the vouchers. When they used them they were delighted and had to get phoning us to tell us about the wonderful time they had and how they didn’t need money just the vouchers. I might try this this year again.

Every Christmas we have to go to my Mums & Dads, hubbys parents are both deceased and he didn’t have any brothers or sisters. Mum likes as many as possible of us there for Christmas, I am one of five girls. Three sisters have children so Mum doesn’t mind sooooo much if they have dinner at home because the children want to play with their toys BUT they have to come up after dinner about 4 or 5pm. Me, hubby, 1 sister, Granny and an aunt (her hubbys deceased and her sons live in America) always go to Mums & Dads for Christmas dinner. Hubby & I always bring the deserts, sister makes starters usually and we all help on Christmas Eve and Daddys friend comes round (his parents are deceased, he has 1 sister but doesn’t like intruding as she is married and has her own family).

The local Priest always has to come round to our house at Christmas because of the way it is decorated inside and out. I just love Christmas and our family make it a happy family time. Then later in the evening we all have to go round the nieces and nephews houses so they can show us what Santa brought them.

SORRY for going on but I just lurve Christmas!!

I've normally started long before this but with everything being so up in the air this year with the planned house move and dh's job change I've actually got nothing done whatsoever.

This thread has given me a virtual kick up the bum and I'm hoping to make some calendars this week to start things off.

I'm chemical free girl too and would love it if we could start a natural product / green / chemical free thread which emcompasses all those products and whose tried them and what success they've had. As well as the savings you can make.
For example I've just bought some e-cloths (https://www.e-cloth.com) to try out
and I've heard of these eco-balls you can use in your washing machine which cuts out using powders and reduces your wash cycle down to 30mins but I dont know anyone whose tried them and as they're £30 ish I'd love to hear some feed back first!!!??

    hya green tips,

i think i have seen that book on amazon, i think?? i will try and find it and post for you, i remember its exspensive will have a look and post link if i find it .

i think your ideas on new thread is good and have you read what is already posted?

We have threads on all those subjects mentioned. If you take a look at the Cleaning section and also the Make-up & Body Care section of the MEGA Index sticky at the top of the Old Style forum listing you'll find ideas a-plenty :)

Hope people haven’t already posted these bits, but the threads so long now, sorry if I’m duplicating at all. :o

Firstly menu planning & shopping : I don’t know about you, but there’s always too much food, and too much too rich food. Last minute shopping for food is a nightmare. So plan your menu’s and shopping lists, gradually buy things when you see them on special if you can keep them in the freezer or they are tins or packets. This stops the impulse buying, and overstocking, and last minute you only need to get the fresh fruit & veg.. Also saves wasting food, and spreads the cost of Christmas.

This year we’re trying e-cards for friends on-line, charity cards normally only have a small percentage to charity, so we’re just going to do a donation to charity direct & explain it to our friends. Still got to do a few cards for elderly relatives etc..

If you have children plan a pre-christmas clutter clearance, there’s never enough room for the new toys. Hopefully it will generate cash to help their savings, or towards this Christmas. If you’re really tight on cash, do tell relatives what the children need/want, the relatives get used to it eventually :o , and it makes it better for the children. :D

Christmas Tree – we always try to buy something for the Christmas Tree from places we’ve been to. So we’re gradually getting a ‘memory’ tree, which makes decorating the tree even more special. Also we had a german friend stay one Christmas, and she gave us some wooden decorations which her Uncle and Father had made. So think about special decorations for the Christmas Tree as either presents for people, or buy/make them yourself and build your own memory tree.

I doubled up yesterday, I amused the kids and did something towards christmas. I had them all making christmas decorations with their Hama Beads! We now have a snowman and a santa and an egyptian(?).

This is lovely. I hadn't considered tree decorations as presents...but now you mention it, a friend gave me a gorgeous little papier mache star from a craft fair two years ago, and now when I put it on the tree, I think of her. I'm sentimental about decorations, too, and like the things on my tree to remind me of something. I have my favourite childhood bauble and velvet bird from my Mum, and a lot that I made when I had my first tree in my own place. Lots, too, that I remember where I bought them. Perhaps anyone going off abroad before Christmas would be able to find unusual decorations to pass onto loved ones as gifts? Or Christmas markets? I know I'd appreciate decorations from countries I haven't visited. What a lovely thought!
