chinagirl wrote:I know I would never put the £30 by each month, so I am grateful to be able to tackle the Christmas money headache this way. ........ but I find the vouchers are a winner. You don't pay interest obviously either!
As they are getting your money in January for December, *they* are getting the interest.
You would be better off setting up a regular savings account and Direct debiting out the money every month - that way you would get the interest rather than lose it.
But if you would end up using the money on something else, then fair play to you, not criticising your choice as you know your circumstances better than anyone - just saying that there might be a better way.
Whatever works for you though0 -
Well, Martin has linked this thread in the newsletter, which is nice!
Today I have realised that it would be a good time to count up the shrapnel in my huge whisky bottle, and use it towards something Christmassey. It's been sitting there untouched (and un-added-to) for years now. I know the banks hate us changing that stuff up, but hey ho, it has to be done!
So that's today's Christmas plan. Count the stuff tonight, and get some bags!0 -
This is a lovely little bag to make with old jeans - would be great for a teen or pre-teen girl for Xmas or birthday, using up old material in the process

Would love to know what the name of the book is please'....a book on making your own cosmetics and beauty products from natural ingredients..'
I'm chemical free girl too and would love it if we could start a natural product / green / chemical free thread which emcompasses all those products and whose tried them and what success they've had. As well as the savings you can make.
For example I've just bought some e-cloths (https://www.e-cloth.com) to try out
and I've heard of these eco-balls you can use in your washing machine which cuts out using powders and reduces your wash cycle down to 30mins but I dont know anyone whose tried them and as they're £30 ish I'd love to hear some feed back first!!!??Just doing my bit to try and save the planet

Hiya,
There are some recipes for home made cleaning products and other things such as bath bombs in our "Save Zillions on Cleaning Index".
You can find "Zillions" in our "Indexed Collections" sticky at the top of the forum listing, or you can follow the clue in my signature any time you see it or...
..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-
Then there a number of other thread collected under Makeup & Bodycare which you can find in the MEGS Index sticky at the top of the Old Style forum listing.

Well that's just tough for them. they're banks and that's what they doI am NOT HAPPY  that I can't pay in my shrapnel (1s, 2s, 5s and 20s) at the post office for my co-op isa - OH sugegsted i move ISAs but (a) can't be bothered and (b) co-op is ethical. wonder if i could start a savings account with somebody else and put it in there  hmm, off to the outside world forums to see what are the best rates........
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
Got some lovely cookery books for my present drawer in M&S sale last night:
2* "Chocolate" (looks just scrummy... hmm.. I'll need to check if I want to try and recipies before I give them away)
"tomato" (full of lovely italian type recipies)
"Curries" (looks beautiful, if not all that easy... for one of my foodier friends..)
and "Ice Cream" (another gorgeous looking book)
very chuffed as they were all only £1 each
then on to boots (needed face scrub..) and got:
the free one of a bogof on radox shower gel (the new bottle... I kept the other one for me!)
8 "miniatures" from sanctuary - all on buy 4 for 3 which are great for making up baskets for people
and because that was over the £15 threshold I got triple points on it all
My present drawer is now looking quite healthy and once I've made up my bath salts I'll only be on the look out for boy pressies for all the birthdays and xmas this year I reckon.Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
Afraid to say that I am one of the people that buys all my stuff in the Jan sales - and usually have them wrapped and up in the loft by the second week in Jan. I have some spare cash in Jan as I don't have to buy anything prior to Christmas as i already have the stuff (the food shopping a get with clubcard vouchers - and we don't drink and so we don't have the booze to buy)
One of the consequences of doing it this way is that you can't remember what you have bought for who, and so i get a surprise as well as the person who I have bought the gift for!
It never ceases to amaze me what a comercial frenzy Christmas can become - when that's not what it is about at all (i'm a minister).0 -
Okay I've succumbed to the pressure!!
Have started my Pressie list on paper & first purchase-a golf thingummy for tees from the charity shop for £1.00 for my son's stocking(he wants an IPod so anyone know a cheap site for those?)0 -
