Hi everyone, I've just found this thread!
I haven't read from the start yet, but will be, I am so glad to have found people that start planning for christmas more or less on Boxing Day like me:j ! I will read through and am positive to find some MSE tips for this xmas!:xmastree:0 -
Don't forget to have a look at the many threads of x-mas crafts/hm pressies and where to save etc on the specia occasions board
I am going to have a serious think about trying to make all our presents myself...
Need to find a glut of apples me thinks... Have blackberries and sloes growing on my doorstep
Then cakes? Or maybe "cake mix in a jar"DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Afternoon all.
Have just been listing some blank card stock on eBay, in Christmassy colours, and it made me think of this thread.
I have two bits of Christmas presents so far - something for my mum, and something for my niece and nephew.
I have arranged with my sister and best friend that we aren't going to buy each other Christmas presents anymore, just Birthday ones. (They both have kids, so it can get quite expensive).
I'm lucky in that my husband buys presents for his side of the family, so I don't have as many ideas to think of. Thank goodness, I'm rarely inspired.. He has stopped buying for his mum, step dad, and one of his sisters.
I have also dug out my box of Christmas cards, so I can see what I need. Think I might have enough for all my needs, just need to get some for my husbands list I think. Might suggest he makes some - we've got enough kit around, after all!:p
MethererNot heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

I saw some cards in a craft shop. They were so cute and easy.
It started with a piece of fabric. Then shapes cut out and sewn with a simple running stitch onto the first piece of fabric.
The pictures were built up in this way and they stuck onto the card.
I think a combination of this and embroidery would make lovely cards.
I think I might buy a couple of Christmas design fat quarters and rustle up few designs.
There is a site called 'about' and this has EVERYTHING you can need to get ideas for home made pressies and cards.

Have a look through. It is one of the best sites for so many things.0 -
thanks for reviving this thread. I was panicking the other day because I haven't really made a start on christmas & I realise just how mad that sounds to anyone but you guys lol. I have a few bits put aside but this time last year I had almost finished my shopping.
Last year I made a few of the hampers & they went down brilliantly so I think I might try the same again.
Just need to keep looking in the sales for the childrens presents.
Hugs

Planning for Christmas :eek::eek:Already bought the wool to knit tank tops for two brothers, an uncle and my father. Little bear will be getting tank tops with any wool left over. I have enough Christmas cards to last me till at least 2010, all charity ones. (I had a splurge a few years ago
) Last December Matalan had some lovely Christmas paper that also will do for all year wrapping paper at £1 per roll. They also had some extra wide Christmassy paper at £1 per roll. I made four trips
:o:o
My SIL and her husband will be happy with anything over 30% proof, their daughter is at the age when money is actually one of the best things you can give her and I think that is about it for most of my present list. Of course, the five birthdays in the beginning of January do add to it, but that is part of the Christmas preparations.
Add in sweets and a tray of beer for the neighbours and some small girlie things for distant cousins and a friend of my uncle's and I think all that will be left is the big ones - my husband and my little boy.
Actually, thinking about it, also presents from my little boy...
And the food...
I'm going to read this thread from the beginning. I may be some time.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

Found this site too late last year to really think about it but picked up a lot of tips for this year.
I'm doing christmas on as tight a budget as I can so bought a load of stuff from the charity shops in January and Feb. (others folks unwanted pressies) got some cheap baskets and am doing gift baskets for some folk........others that need posting I'm filling shoe boxes with bits and bobs -decorated the shoe boxes with some cheap scrapbook paper. My teenage grandchildren have a birthday at christmas as well........so, two shoe boxes for grandson, two baskets for grandaughter.
Making all my own cards..........in fact they're already made and I think Christmas is about covered as far as pressies go too apart from odd little bits. Popping in some freebies I got from the 'freebies' board and making some 'gifts in a jar' that'll cost next to nothing.
Special Occassions board is full of ideas so its worth a look there.
I did intend to be all done and dusted by the end of August but can't see that happening ! Keep thinking of other bits and bobs I can 'create'................lolMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Last year I did Christmas pressies for over 60 people in the end! I can't help myself I love Christmas so much!!
But it is a bit mad and have decided to be a bit more sensible this year! I have cut down on some people ie those who never give my kids anything for whatever reason and decided I would stop giving to their kids might even be embarrassing for them that I have kept it up! So that's 10 less so at least £100 saved to begin with!
I have written my list of people outand there are 35 people on it plus hubby, son and daughter and cat! Oh and kids friends and teachers but they will be something little only (I hope!) Of those 35 I have got presents for 15 completed, got 6 half completed and got some ideas for some of the others!
I actually bought some marzipan in Tesco the other day as it was reduced and in date til Christmas at least so that's a start on the christmas cake! Must remember to order my turkey this year! Was gonna get one from M & S but left it too late (was my first ever Christmas at home and therefore first Christmas to remember to buy everything tho' we did get a turkey!)
I must go through 'the present cupboard' again and see if I can find bits for any of the other people!!
Good luck with all your preparations we even watched home alone today so started the kids talking about Christmas!! Well it was raining outside!0
