Will this thread be moving to the new board now?
    Hi Ruby :)

No, we've had a chat about this and have decided that our older threads, and especially this one which is fairly largely Old Style, will stay unless we are told differently by the Forum Team.

However, we will be moving any new threads across to keep in with the basic rule that posts should be made on the board that is dedicated to them.

well its not really Christmas related but its my mother n law's birthday today and I felt I had to get it out of the way before getting on with the rest of the christmas stuff.

I think I did really wel for her. I did a mystery shop last week which my spend on it went on wine so she got a bottle of that (in a bottle bag that I recycled - possibly from one she gave us LOL), I put 14 photos of the kids in a big frame that we had lying around unused - bit like this one - http://www.unusualonline.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=2030 only ours was cheap and cost prob about a tenner - she loves it :)
Oh and a pair of secateurs that she was after.

The kids and I made her a birthday cake and 3 birthday cards.
I don't count the spend pn the frame as we had it already so altogether she got 3 ace presents and a cake for 9.99 :)

    Can focus on christmas now!

and I have just realised that I have accidentally started a Christmas hamper for ourselves - with more of the wine from the mystery shops, and a tub of peanuts from the mystery shop.
And when mother-in-law came over for her birthday pressies this evening, she brought a family variety pack of biscuits she'd been given that she didn't want for herself.
So they are all upsatirs hidden til Christmas. As hubby is only off 2 days and we opnly have mum-in-law coming that should almodt cover the snacky stuff anyway!!

What a great idea - one way of making sure you get exactly what you want!

Hi everyone, I have been lurking on the site for a few weeks now so I thought it was about time I posted!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the great ideas and all the lovely Christmas spirit...I am up to page 15 of this thread and I'm now listening to Band Aid :rotfl:

I have bought all of our presents for my 2 year old ds (£5o budget of money made from selling old toys on ebay, I like to think of it as recycling ;) ) And I have a few store cupboard things saved up (pickled onions, butter shortbread, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix and frozen yorkshire puddings). I'll be adding to this week by week to lighten the load in December.

I don't really have many more presents, all my family are far away and OH's are muslim so they don't celebrate Christmas. I'm selling a few more things to fund OH's present (we have set a £20 limit) and stocking fillers for my men (£5 each) :D

When I found this site a few weeks ago it felt great to see that there are other people who think that Christmas should be more about the thought that you put into it than the £100's of pounds you spend on the latest 'must-have' gadget, I feel quite liberated from my usual guilt about not having enough money to spend on unnecessary tat ;) It's also fantastic to find somewhere that I can talk about Christmas in October without being grumbled at :j

Sorry, I have waffled :o ...hello and thank you...I'm going to really enjoy reading the rest of this thread :T

  • Well I was wandering around touchwood today during my lunchbreak and spotted the new shop that had opened - Hawkins Baazar! Rang my mum to tell her and she was possibly even more excited, lol!
