My daughter has had an account with HSBC for about three year, she had a £100 overdraft facility which she has not used. She received a letter in the post telling her that her existing overdraft facility is being reviewed and will remain the same and she will be charged a £25.00 arrangement fee for this. My daughter phoned them and was told it was a new policy to charge each year even though she had not made any changes to the facility.
She was told that all banks do this now I have an account with the Nationwide and have not been notified of any changes. Any advice ,should she change her bank? are they correct to do this?
am at this very moment on the phone to hsbc for exactly the same thing, absolutely outrageous. Have asked for the money back and am on hold waiting for a reply. they make enough money each month already.0 -
I sent the letter one from this site to HSBC with the obvious intention of reclaiming a good £400 ive paid in 2007.
they sent back the details for free, but informed me that the financial standards agency have agreed to let them freeze the normal timetable untill the legal issues have been resolved.
ive tried searching for something regard this on the site but cant find anything, does anyone know anything about it?
thank you

I successfully recovered £2693 in bank charges last January from
HSBC, so i am fully aware of the claiming process
I want to have another go at them :rotfl: to claim charges from
last January to now, and before anyone says I should of learned my lesion
I was made redundant in the spring and couldn't avoid exceeding my
overdraft limits.
Now I am with another bank in credit, and paying my HSBC overdraft off with my other debts with the thanks of Payplan, So although the test-case is
still pending do I still start the claiming process as per normal?0 -
Yes you do. It will be stayed, but it will get settled after the case ends.0

Hi Oliver27
I too bank with HSBC and am in the process of putting in my claim, I realise now I should of done this ages ago,but up until the start of this month I had been in a very time consuming job! I've this evening totted up my charges over the last 6 years - amazingly there were 6 years worth of statements on my internet banking - coincidence maybe?!?! - and come up with the grand total of £2904.50!
Was there much resistance with HSBC when you originally claimed? I know that my claim will be put on hold until the end of OFT Test Case is over, I guess ultimatly it all depends on how that goes now...

The claim went very well really, I took it all the way to opening
a claim via the small claims court, and the banks solicitors coughed up
with the full amount including interest and costs, before the case was
allocated for a hearing date, just a game of willpower really but this
was before the whole-test case situation,
At the time I got all my info and support from the consumer action

Morning folks
I'm in the process of reclaiming £2035 without interest.
I sent the first reclaim letter two days ago, i've started reading from the beginning of the HSBC thread but its a big un. Am I right in thinking that the process is still the same. Issue first letter, then wait 8 weeks before sending a reminder or has the process changed following the commencement of the court case.
I'd rather not go the way of the court case as my life is fairly hectic at the moment but we'll see what happens.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed on here, its invaluable.

I am putting in a claim to HSBC the robbing gits for my bank charges.
I can either ask for just the charges at £657 or plus interest which will total £877.
Martin's guide says that sometimes claiming the interest too, which you would only be entitled to if you won in court, can put the bank off even considering settling/refunding.
What is everyones opinion given that the difference here is just £220 (though every little helps!)
I'm just not sure what call to make really.

Not sure where you got 8 weeks from, I gave them 14 days to respond
to my preliminary approach for repayment letter before sending my LBA
off to them0 -

From my experience of claiming HSBC wont pay the full amount back
to you without claiming via the courts so it's unlikely to pay you interest
if they don't have to0
