Waitrose Wedding Cake

Hi,

Has anyone had a wedding cake from Waitrose by any chance? I love the look of it but not sure what the cake itself is like?

For those who have had it, would you recommend it? Is it worth the £210 pricetag?

Here's a photo from their site:

This one also looks quite nice and the chocolate sounds so appealing!

I dont remember anyone on here mentioning the waitrose ones before. They look lovely though. Marks and spencers have some lovely ones at similar prices that are very popular.

I have to say I had one from M&S and it was incredible and very fresh, very nicely presented, I think it was about £130-150, comes highly recommended! You can also order one from a normal bakery (proper MSE tip coming up!) but don't tell them it's a wedding cake, tell them it's a birthday cake or something, you will be amazed what a difference in price it makes, literally half. We got one from Patisserie Valerie in South Kensington - the cake was £300 for the same cake they were charging £600 for as a wedding cake, and thiswas the same pretty much everywhere you look. As soon as places hear the word 'wedding' they double the prices.Best of luck!

I'm getting mine from M&S. We're only having a small ceremony, so to me the M&S ones were cheaper for a smaller cake. We're paying £75 for a single-layer chocoholic's dream!

The great thing is you can decorate these cakes for cheap. Ours is a bit a plain on top, so we're going to pile fresh berries all over it for some tasty colour.

We looked at John Lewis, but there's not one near enough to our wedding location! Have heard good things about them, though.

  • Hi,
I like the look of the 1st one (has given me an idea for decorating mine :T but haven't heard Waitrose cakes mentioned either.

I'm saving Tesco clubcard vouchers to buy mine and should have enough when the next ones arrive! We decided that as we wouldn't be eating it we would rather put the money towards something else than splash out a huge amount for something that is really only going to photographed.

But that is of course just my opinion!
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p

Thanks for all the replies, they do look very nice don't they but not sure if it tastes as good as it looks! My other option would be M&S too, so just really trying to decide now... I'm verging more towards the Waitrose one, will pop in and ask if I can taste a sample of their wedding cake (not sure if they do that kind of service though).

Not heard of the Waitrose ones before, just M&S but had a look and they seem nice. Just seen you can get 7% casback from Waitrose Entertaining via Quidco!

If it's anything like the chocolate and orange (with cointreau) one that my father-in-law had for his 80th from Waitrose, that was delicious. Mind you, that was only about £14 as far as I can remember!

I would say that if it is the chocolate and orange cake then it is AMAZING!!!! I have had some of them for birthday cakes. Also it is so nice I have bought them when it is slightly reduced in price, even withouht it being someones birthday!

I had a look on the waitrose site and I think that is the same cake that I have had. I would have one for our wedding by my gfs auntie is going to make ours.

    Hi,
The iced cake is the exact one that I want and i'm having trouble deciding whether to risk buying it or not...OH thinks it's a ridiculous price (what do they know?! the other one I wanted was £450!) I think it's a very reasonable price myself. I love the way the petals cascade down the cake...it's just gorgeous! Let us know if you do happen to go for a tasting...
