When giving out any personnal information you should always ask yourself 2 questions
1) Do I need to give out this informatin
If the answer to 1) is YES, then
2) What are they going to use this information for.
As, in this instance, the answer to question 1) is NO, then question 2) doesn't come into it.0 -

I think the serial complainers on here though would have prefered if it was written in blood. When giving out any personnal information you should always ask yourself 2 questions

Or 3) It's their way of doing things which they are intitled to do so if you don't like it why don't you just go somewhere else?0 -

Why do you beleive that they are entitled to do this? Just curious as you seem to think they are.
They do not require this information, and are just using it to build up a nice little DSG database.
Have a look on PC worlds website, heres why they want your details
"We would also like to inform you of various promotions, goods and services that may be of interest to you. These would come from any of our chains, including PC World, Dixons, Currys and Partmaster Direct, from our affiliates including The Link, or from carefully selected third parties. You may be contacted by post, email, telephone, SMS or such other means as we regard as appropriate, including new technology."
Apart from legal obligations, or phone contracts etc, you do not have to supply that information. DSG know it, and most of use know it.Iamthesmartestmanalive wrote: »If you dont like their terms of sale dont contract
Contract law allows a party to a contract to input any term they wish as long as it doesnt breach law or is unfair
But as you know a contract is a two way thing, and contracts are negotiable.
The fact that I was told by the manager he could lose his job by NOT having my home address is just a joke. They pressurise you to provide this information, even though they have (mostly except for tvs etc) no legal right to have it.0 -

I think you should have asked all the others in the queue for their names and addresses so you could contact them for evidence of the way you were being treated ....
.... erm .... unless they felt the same way as you about sharing their name and address ....
oh dear - back to the drawing board!
only joking - you witnessed typical DSG customer non-service0 -
Why do you beleive that they are entitled to do this?
As an example
Customer: 'I bought this a year ago and it has broken'
Store: did you buy it here
Customer yes
Store: Do you have the receipt
Customer: No, I have lost it and I do not have to supply it
Store: What is your postcode and name and I can look it up for you
Customer: I didn't give it to you
Store: Do you have a credit card bill or something to show you bought it
Customer: no
Store: so how do I know if and when you boought it here
Customer: are you calling me a liar?
Store: No but we need proof it was bought here and when
Customer: are you calling me a liar?
Store: tough mate you are out of luck, try the manufacturer
Also always remember that no customer is entitled to buy anything from any shop. The shop can refuse to sell them anything they want to.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Got to say not mad keen on loads of companies having names and addresses, even the govment departments burn them to dvd and then loose them.
PC world is overpriced and rarely do i buy from them unless I use them for their price promise which gives you a further 10% of if the same product is cheaper elsewhere the match it and knock another 10%, i have nobbled them for extra pennys of memory cards etc.
On the whole PC world's service is very poor and shoddy information.
I would suggest using a company called Novatech they are based in Portsmouth and Bristol, have supurb staff who know everything, they prices are very seldom betered and their own branded products are exceptionally well put together. go have a look at http://www.novatech.co.uk
I don't use their delivery as the portsmouth is just down the road but i am told by others it is good aswell.0 -
