Shame, OP. You missed an opportunity to walk away with the entire contents of the Luton store. You only needed to obtain the names and addresses of a couple of other people in that queue, and there you'd have witnesses to slander.:j

Bigger shame about PC World though. Our local store is nothing like that Luton one: any of the staff I've ever dealt with, they've always been first rate.

But I only pop into PC World for specific items at specific sale prices, otherwise there's no point in using them. Comet is next door to them where I live, and Comet is superior in every way.

Interesting to see that in the latest issue of PC Pro magazine, the 2007 Customer Satisfaction Survey rates PC World at the bottom, and its 'Advent' computer brand, ditto.

You wrote a letter complaining about the service you received, and requested an apology.

You received a reply thanking you for bringing the matter to their attention, and an apology.

What more did you expect?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I have to agree with this response. I'm not sure what more you were expecting from PC World at this point.

straightforward case of data collection....I am also convinced that PC world staff OR any in the DSG group will NOT go and look for a copy of a receipt for you if you return a faulty item (and have lost or misplaced your receipt) but the fact this is what they tell you at time of purchase may come back to haunt them....lol

If it was me i'd expect a slightly more personalised reply especially as several points made in the original letter were ignore, i.e the fact he was called a theif.

Am I the only one here who's been thinking all along that it was suggested that they need those details as part of a gaurentee (I know it could be made up/doesn't really help) that the card will then be likely to genuine, rather than the words "you are a thief", "that card is stolen" were used?

Well, in my experience you get what you ask for. If the main issue was that the cashier suggested he had a stolen credit card, then this should have been the main focus of the letter.

If the OP wanted a specific response to each individual point, then the letter should have explained this. i.e.

I would appreciate your comments regarding the following matters arising from my visit to your store:
    1. The unwarranted request for my personal information.
    2. The cashier's insistence that I was in some way obliged to give this information.
    3. The cashier's suggestion that I was using a stolen credit card.

    etc.

Write a generic letter, get a generic response. Personally, I don't think the reponse was unreasonable. I appreciate we all have different expectations, however.
