That does sound more like it. Hope there are no other problems. Much as I hate the expense I always feel better about the car after I've had work done on it. Always eems to feel more reliable. Even though mine has never let me down other than needing a new battery and general wear and tear.

Eek - sorry to hear about your car, hope the final bill isn't too expensive.

  • £225 for a cam belt? is it gold???

im sorry to sound negative Lucy but that is a tad expensive. A cambelt is about £20 - £30 in the shops so the rest must be for labour suerly??

That's what OH thinks. I have someone looking into it.

But I'm not really sure if there is anything else I can do, the car doesn't start so I can't move it!! OH thought that with labour that price sounded about right.

I think your OH is right Lucy. I put a new belt in recently (coz I was worried about it going and the manual said it needed it in 10k miles time) and the total bill was about £300 including a new waterpump and other bits and pieces. I think you have come out well. MInd you, I do have a VW Golf Cab which seems a lot dearer than my old fiesta!

I've just spoken to a friend who's OH is a mechanic and he is still worried there will be some damage!

I guess I am going to have to wait until the garage call me back and find out what really is the problem.

  • awww Lucy I feel for u!

when my car broke I was going spare. I have a bad history with depression too infact I have a CPN to help me deal with things. People would say "its just a car" but to me its not its my lifeline and if your totally skint most of the time then you know you just cant pop out and get a replacment on finance :-(

Think positive!! Let us know how u get on through the day!

  • Hi Lucy

    Totally sympathise with you.

The last lot of floods in July (yes, I unfortunately live in Glos) made my car go into the garage. The friday of the torrential downpour I was due to take my daughter to bristol. Coming off the golden valley to go on the motorway roundabout, my window stuck down and wouldn't go up. Torrential rain started pouring in so I had to go home (luckily for me I found out later). Got home, called recovery, went in for repair and it cost me nearly £600!! Gutted, all for just an electric window failure, which was connected to the ECU, so had to have a new ECU, and my aircon regassed.

Anyway, I say lucky it happened because IF I had got onto the M5 at Gloucester, we would had been stuck on there all night as that was the night people left their cars on the motorway due to the floods...

Hope its the estimate they gave you in the end. I suffer from anxiety and anything that happens to the car sends me in a spin. I have only just hit 25,000 miles on a 53 reg but completely paranoid something big will go bang.

    Good luck!!

That's the thing, I just worry about it so much. I know OH is good with his car (a golf) but I don't know what I'll do if it costs more than that.
