Scary car problem, waiting for the garage to call tomorrow.... Could be EXPENSIVE!

  • If not then it's pretty much £300 down the drain (a large percentage of that will be labour cost) - then they'd need to remove the head, replace valve(s), fit new headgasket and re-assemble. That's where the +£1000 bills come into things, can sometimes be cheaper to source a 2nd hand engine from a breaker and do a straight swap.Again, I really do hope Lady Luck is smiling on you and that engine.Exactly what happened to mine

    Morning.

No news yet. OH wants me to get the garage to call him when they do ring (I have no idea what they are talking about and he does) I slept much better last night as I have realised 2 things. Either it's going to be fix or it's not. There is nothing I can really do about it.

Money wise, I can either not get it done and be without a car and save up for it or I can beg the bank and see what they can do to help me or if the worst really comes to it, I will have to write the car off and start again (hopefully my insurance would help, but I have no idea how it works) if it's £300 wasted then there is nothing I can do about it, at least they no not to repair it without speaking to me (or OH) first.

I'm still really panicy and have been on the edge of a panic attack for 24 hrs but I'm still with you. I have terrible backache which happens whenever Iget really stressed. But there really is nothing I can do.

I will of course keep you all posted.... please keep your fingers crossed.

    xx

  • Hi Lucy,

From experiance if the cambelt snapped at low rev's ie not at 70mph you might have got away with it. Was there any loud banging noise or did the car just die?

    FINGERS CROSSED FOR YOU!! :D

Do you have mechanical breakdown insurance? Because normal car insurance won't pay out for anything other than accidents or damage caused by an external force (ie hitting something)

RE: above comment about sourcing your own parts off ebay - bad idea IMO... especially with a cambelt, how do you know it is a proper quality one? If it goes again then it could do lots more damage next time and I bet you don't get a warranty off ebay.... def. better to get a genuine Ford one and the warranty that goes with it for the peace of mind!
