Thanks for that.
OH's best mate was a mechanic and OH is sure that he would fix it for me if I really couldn't get the money together.
Although how I am meant to get the car from the garage to his place when it doesn't start!!! Maybe OH can borrow a lorry from work and we can load it in the back :rotfl:Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -

Ok, just given in and called the garage......
They are still doing some checks, but my VALVES ARE OKThey can't say that something else hasn't been broken, but they are going to fit a new tensioner and cam belt and see if that works and then call me back.
Cost:
Cam belt - £225.
Tensioner - £35
Labour est - £40
Guesstimated about £300, but subject to nothing else being wrong and labour. That's not to bad is it.
But I wouldn't get her back until tomorrow. And they are going to call me once they know for sure.
A little less panicked now.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Ok here's the thing for me. Assuming the belt has snapped the garage will need to take required engine parts apart to asess the damage. Hence labour costs start to acrue. Then they will let you know what the damage is. At this point the engine will be in bits. It is then up to you decide whether a) the garage fixes it or b) you let someone else fix it, which means the garage will put it back to how they found it and charge you labour costs. Again you will need to weigh up the two garage costs.
God cars are horrible horrible things.0 -

Well done! Always a worry when they go into the garage - mine has just started making some hissing sounds, so will have to put it into the garage over the next week or so. It's due it's MOT, and car tax renewal over the next three weeks, so thank goodness for payday tomorrow and the last ever repayment of a Cahoot loan that I took out 4 yrs ago and ends in Feb!!!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

Oooh MOT's awful awful things. mine due in april, not looking forward to that. Although tax is a pain at least it's a set amount and you know what you are in for. MOTs however probably depend on how much business the garage has done during the previous week0
