The irony is I was accepted for a crdit card on Thursday... but it wont get here in time (probably take about a month!!)
But it does make you realise what a thin line we walk. I think I will learn from this. But here is the money plan:
I have about £150 in my account (credit), £50 od and £100 in a car savings account = £300.
Mum thinks she can get hold of about £300 through savings and her od (I would pay her back)
Which would give me £600, if it costs more than that I really don't know what I am going to do. I get paid on Friday so I guess I could put them back a week or something and then be really really careful for a month, I have £180 left after everything is I cut way back on spends I might be able to make that £250.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -

Lucy,
Your OH's mate is right, as you weren't moving, it shouldn't be so bad. If your car is moving when it goes, it usually takes the gearbox out with it, and that causes scary/nasty repair bills as it's the gearbox that costs an arm and a leg to replace.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that yours isn't too expensive to repair.0 -
Sorry to hear about your car, thats all you need at the start of a new year! Guess thats the one bad thing about owning your own car, if anything goes wrong its normally a big expense to fix it.
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow!!0 -

chain/gear driven camshafts and good old pushrod engines look a better bet than a plastic belt with teeth on....Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0

They are pretty reliable up to their life-time. If I get a secondhand car, I always have that replaced as a matter-of-course so at least you know where you stand. They also need replacing every 60-70,000 miles."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
