Problem with Pioneer 109 DVR-109

Was the external LiteOn drive connected via IDE or USB cables. Unless it was connected via IDE cables then it is hard to compare or determine if the problem is related to the 109 or a compatibilty issue with your computer. These faster 80pin cables are only a few pound and may be worth giving it a go. I believe they are actually meant to be backward compatible with older cables so older equipment can still be connected. Not sure if the 80pin cables can be used in motherboards that don't support them though.Jeff121 wrote:...A friend gave me a loan of his Liteon external DVDRW today, worked a treat, plugged it in and away it went, tried it out with Nero 6 software and all was OK, pity the Pioneer 109 has been such a letdown so far....0 -
The Liteon DVD/CD RW model SOHW-812SX is USB connection, so I agree that the compatibility problem shouldn't surface as the connection type is totally different. Have checked the IDE cable and fortunately its 80 pin so no need to rewire. Have not heard from Savastore as yet, hoping that if they find Pioneer 109 is DOA that they will agree to replace/exchange it with LG model they stock, would much rather have NEC but see from Savastore website that they don't stock NEC, thanks for your continued help BBB_UK

A bit more info on my problem with my Dell 8400 and my new drive. I tried changing to new cable just in case Dell had supplied low grade, but no change.
Every time I set the slave - primary ide channel 1 to udma, when I tried writing, it reverted to PIO.
Dimension 8400 only has one IDE channel on the motherboard so I couldn't even wire them seperately! upgraded everything, drivers, etc but still no go. I had reached the stage where I was going to wipe CMOS and start from scratch but while checking EVERY setting on the BIOS, I came across the SATA drivers (used for hard disks and high spec DVD drives) one entry was PATA and the only thing under this heading was "Primary IDE channel - Slave enabled disabled."
It was of course diabled so I changed it and all now behaves as expected.......
What a palavar just to add a drive.0 -
An Update on Pioneer 109, it's a month since I returned the Pioneer DVD-RW to Savastore and the status of the return still reads "unknown". My last 2 e mails to Customer service have not been answered so have now contacted Trading Standards who advised me to send following notice by recorded delivery. Under the "Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) " because the goods are not durable or free from minor defect the goods are not therefore of satisfactory quality and that I am entitled to a full refund. Having returned the goods to you on 28th June 2005 I expect a refund between 4 to 14 days as of the date of this notice.
I don't know if anyone has experienced any similar problems with Savastore but this is my 1st purchase from them and will be my last.0 -
I've ordered from them loads of times and not had a problem but then again I've never had to return anything.
Thanks for the warning!0 -
Update: More than a month after I returned Pioneer DVD-RW Savastore told me last Thursday that they have authorised a refund. Friday I ordered an NEC 3540 DVD-RW from SVP which arrived today. Installed it and its working a treat, thanks for everyone's help while I was attempting to install the Pioneer 109 which must have been faulty.0
