Problem with Pioneer 109 DVR-109

It is looking that way. For windows to assign a drive letter would indicate you have it connected right and it not playing any DVD, music and data discs would seem to indicate the drive is faulty.Jeff121 wrote:Tried setting it as Master, no difference, tried to get it to play DVD and music CD but keep getting same error message, disc tray empty, insert disc! Guess it might be a dud machine?
If you have just bought it recently then contact the company where you bought it and ask inform them you its faulty and explain all the tests you have done (to prove you have done everything right in connecting it, etc). Providing it is new (not second hand, etc) then the company are have to arrange collection at their costs (or you pay and then they refund you) and you are within your rights to ask for another one (but a decent company would offer this anyhow).0 -
I have removed Pioneer 109 and reinstalled Samsung CDRW which was working fine however now get the same error message, as with Pioneer, that its not recognising that there's a blanc disc in the CD writer. Have tried 3 new blanc cd's and each time same result so maybe not duff Pioneer. Tried to copy music cd with Roxio also the downloaded version of Nero but same non recognition of disc from both, same batch of CD's I have used for ages, Memorex and a Sony? The Samsung CDRW was working OK the other day, can only think to roll back XP and see what happens next?0

Old Samsung CD writer working again. tried another reinstall of Pioneer 109 DVD-RW to no avail, still wont copy or read any disc, have contacted Savastore.com who I bought it from, now waiting for returns authorisation and instructions for its return. Its at times like this when things don't go right that I wish I'd bought locally!!0

What was wrong with your Samsung one? Did you ever work it out or did you just return to an earlier system restore point?
I assume all you did was a straight forward replacement from the Samsung to the Pioneer? You didnt try and install or do anything else on the computer?
The only reason why I'm querying now is that the Samsung had the same problem which is really weird and could point to other things!0 -
Did not do a System Restore. Removed Roxio and replaced it with Nero 6, tried the Pioneer with Nero 6 no response then fitted Samsung it worked fine with Nero 6. Have since last post tried Pioneer again but all that happens as with all other attempts is that it powers up, disc tray operation etc OK XP troubleshooter says "this device is working OK" but it doesn't, Nero 6 loads up tracks to be recorded but the final click "burn" doesn't light up to allow me to click on it, however everything works fine with Samsung CD-RW.0

It could be your ASPI layer!
You can download Adaptec's ASPI layer from here (WinXP version).
To test to see if ASPI layer is installed and working correctly then download a small programme called ClonyXXL from here.
Once you have downloaded and ran it (no need to install it), it may not be in English so you may have to click on "Optionen/Tools" (Options/Tools) and click on the GB flag.
Select the drive that corresponds to your CD Drive (if you only have one drive then it'll automatically be detected) and directly below that will display the name of that drive. If there is a problem with the ASPI layer then another message may appear. To further confirm ASPI layer is working then from within the "Options/Tools" click on "ASPI Driver" and see what is displayed here.0 -
Also,
I've found that using chipset IDE drivers vs M$ generic (in-the-box) drivers gives different results.
I have the nForce2 chipset which works very well with the nForce IDE driver but does have problems with CD/DVD drives.0 -
I updated my firware and its working ok. Some disks wont work in the pioneer becouse its a funny drive and dosent like certain types of disks.
My old computer store dont like them becouse of the disk issue? but i love the drive becouse its fast. Once you find disks its likes your ok.I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
I never thought of that as I generally only use generic M$ drivers but I had a problem the other day getting the BIOS on a machine I was building to recognising the CDROM drive. Windows recognised it but because the BIOS had problems connecting it always came up with an error saying "incompatible ATAPI drive, press F1 to continue" which was annoying as it would pause until F1 was pressed. After a lot of cursing I found it the BIOS wasn't actually recognising the drive correctly if it was set as a CDROM drive (as it should) but setting it to AUTO worked and it recognised it as a CDROM drive and worked without any BIOS errors. Not to mention that the BIOS wouldn't recognise a new Maxtor HDD if it was set at master. I had to set it to slave for it to be recognised but it worked fine on my computer at home (as master) as I had to FDISK and format it to FAT32. Weird or what!?T4i wrote:...I've found that using chipset IDE drivers vs M$ generic (in-the-box) drivers gives different results....0 -
I didn't know that had disc issues. I've got the 108 model and works with all discs (cheapo's included) that I've used with it.boogiemaster wrote:I updated my firware and its working ok. Some disks wont work in the pioneer becouse its a funny drive and dosent like certain types of disks...0
