bbb_uk wrote:Also, though some people would probably disagree but I would have the writer as Master (on the end of the cable) with your reader as Slave.
This is how I wire up p.c's
If i want to do a 1-2-1 copy CD I rip the master cd to HDD 1st. Then write it to CD media. If, however the user wants to do cd-2-cd (on-the-fly) I try to have the primary and secondary channels with its own slave cd/dvd device.0 -
Ultra DMA 33 (UDMA2), 33 MB/secJeff121 wrote:so does this mean that UDMA will be 100+ as BBB_UK mentioned?
Ultra DMA 66 (UDMA4), 66 MB/sec
Ultra DMA 100 (UDMA5), 100 MB/sec
Ultra DMA 133 (UDMA6), 133 MB/sec
Ultra DMA 133 (UDMA6), 133 MB/sec
According to your post, your harddrive is UDMA5 (aka UDMA100) but your CD/DVD Drives are UDMA2.
I've tried to see if I could find out if it supports faster CD/DVD access (higher than your UDMA2) but couldn't confirm that it does. At a guess though, I'd say it does support the faster UDMA options for your drives.
It's upto you but you could get a 80pin cable (blue connector on one end which goes to motherboard) and see if it works. I would leave it for the time being until your drive is returned/replaced as the drive itself has to support it and the current drive(s) you have attached may not. My Pioneer 108 drive is UDMA4 so at a guess (well I would have thought) that the 109 supports UDMA5+. Even if it only supports UDMA4 it'll still twice as fast as what the current drives are.0 -
So do I and I would have thought most people but I just remember getting the instructions with my first writer (HP) and it recommended connecting it as a slave. Like you, I backup everything via the harddrive first and then to the writer to ensure I don't suffer from coasters (ruined blank discs) and I believe having the writer as a master is essential to avoid coasters.T4i wrote:This is how I wire up p.c's

Thanks BBB_UK hopefully Savastore wont take too long in either returning same unit or rereplacement unit. If the Pioneer is not faulty then I will report to them that there seems to be a conflict issue with the 109 and Dell PC's, likely not get me anywhere though? A friend gave me a loan of his Liteon external DVDRW today, worked a treat, plugged it in and away it went, tried it out with Nero 6 software and all was OK, pity the Pioneer 109 has been such a letdown so far. Thanks for all of your advice and help, its much appreciated.0
