    Hi
thought I'd join the pin money challenge too. I'm doing the grocery challenge as well. Grocery challenge starts Thurs 7th July and will be £200 for 4 weeks.

But I'm going to start the pin money challenge from now until the end of July. Today I have 'saved' £5. Had a one pound off voucher for huggies dri nites (got a free one from them too) and also £4 worth of luncheon vouchers which are accepted at Boots.

I'm going to put the money saved towards paying off my ownly debt, my overdraft, which stands at £1,150 eek! At least it is an arranged overdraft not an unauthorised one.

Just been to the shop on our bikes and got some half price bread, trouble was I could only manage to carry 4 loaves on my bike, also got some reduced crisps just being marked down at the checkout as we were queuing, add that to the 1p I found a few days ago and another £1.93 to the Pin tin.

I have also cancelled out a new Next catalogue due to be sent to me saving £3.50, apparently you can keep your account open and just order online. I'm annoyed with myself now as I paid £3.50 for it last winter and haven't used it at all. I suppose you live and learn, I only had it for the school stuff as I had trouble getting certain things to fit from elsewhere.

Total so far in my Pin tin £10.22 and hopefully will put some more in as it's food shop day tomorrow.

Welcome to all the other new PMS people, hope you enjoy it.

Oh and Lemanie, I'm with Squeaky and his reply, I do all the other things you have said and I would count it against the sofa you really would have bought.

Must go and try and squeeze my bread into my too small freezer LOL.
A penny saved is one you don't have to earn!

    Hi
can we count money in our loose change jars as pin money? Mine looks like it's going to be full up this month so time to bank it.

Do we still count the pin money as pin money if we go over our grocery challenge?

For example if I went over my grocery challenge by £10 and had made £4 pin money would I deduct the pin money from the grocery so I had made £0 pin money but only gone over my grocery challenge by £6 instead?

Or would I say I'd gone over my grocery challenge by £10 but had made £4 pin money?

Think it depends on how you want to play it - personally, I would go for the first option. I might even be tempted to take the £6 OUT of my PIN money to balance the books!!!!!!!!

Erm, I'd say which ever way you feel comfortable with. Decide which way you want to go and then make that your rule that you stick to. Don't be tempted to chop and change it to get the best deal for yourself :) Though, thinking on, that's exactly what MSE is all about... :)

  • All this talk of saving small change reminds me of when my OH and I started living together 20 odd years ago, he used to empty his pockets every day and just used to leave the loose stuff everywhere around the house in a very untidy fashion but since it was his money I didn't really feel that I should tidy it up or gather it together and call it mine so I hit on the idea of buying it off him at half the face value, and really did!....:o .......I can't believe I did that!.....luckily it didn't put him off

    Thanks :)
I'm going to do the first option and take any shortfall in the grocery challenge out of my pin money.

    Hi!
I had already started doing this last week before reading the thread today - Saved £4.37 already between vouchers and refund for overcharging (I spent a long time wondering if the refund for overcharging should count!) It's made me a lot keener to try using the vouchers and spot bargains so I'm getting rather hooked. Seems to make a bit of difference when I can see it building up in my little pot - I've got all my vouchers in a plastic envelope in my handbag at the ready now instead of being left on the window sill at home by mistake
    Mind if I join in?

By all means :) You don't need an invitation and you certainly don't need permission :)

A good start, too. Better than mine - but I do have some pin money now, so I'm ahead of the game :)
