I wish you the best of luck for Thursday. I can't think of any relevant questions, though I suppose one would be if Ryan damages the room, who pays to fix it? Ie if they put you in one room which they acknowledge is totally unsuitable, then do they have the responsibility?

Thats a really good point, almost full circle to the reason why you couldn't take a private rental because of potential damage.

    Hi BM,

Just caught up with the posts of the last couple of days!

Please ignore the comments by Dopester I had a couple of posters on my threads who tried to upset the apple cart too - . You have lots of good support here so posters like D will 'chased out of town' by us all ;) .

I have been racking my brains to try and remember what I asked when I had my appt with the HLO at the council, but I just cannot remember what was said at all! I can picture me sitting in the room - firstly with my friend J and then again with I-T, but I have no recollection of what was said -sorry hun  . I think Vivatifosi has suggested some good questions though.

Hope meeting goes well for you xx

Have been reading your posts BM, but as I have no expereince in these areas I didn't feel I was able to post. However, I would like to now say that I wish you all the luck in the world (and more if its possible!) for tomorrow, whatever the outcome I am certain that you will have the strength to move on positively.

Hi everyone and I wanted to say :hello: to all the new pople who have posted. Also - thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the messages of support, it is nice to come and read them and give me the strength through the day . I feel like I have climned a mountain and I am getting near the top - just need a rocket pack to get me over the top now :) However, you know me, I have my off days but I am positive as always until there is reason not to be (scared but positive!!).

Jamtart  - you see my concerns are that in 2 weeks time we will have no Sky and we will miss Lost      Who is going to tell you what is happening now because you know I am SOOOOOOOOOOO going to be right on many counts!! :rotfl: In fact, I was going to pop a mail on that thread and ask if someone had a DVD recorder that could record it and pop it in the mail to me (I'd pay for the disc of course) as we might not have IA either. (Is this allowed :o )

    But todays news:

I am so tired, I think this plus the fact my DS has been getitng up early (4.30 yeterday - it is usualy 5ish) but I have still not been going to bed until late so I am shattered. My son has his trial lunch today at school so at least I don't have to worry about dinner. Apparently they changed the menu at school (again) and yesterday was breaded salmon with sweet chilli sauce!! My daughtr does not eat any of the fancy foods so it was nice to hear that I paid £1.65 for sweetcorn, bread and grapes. That was her lunch! So now I am trying to persued her that packed lunch might be better. Tomorrow they have jecket potatoes with backed beans or curry - she likes neither, so what happens then? I wonder if I can send her with a pack lunch that day, but nice to have something else to worry about for a change!

I have been sitting here all morning and have a huge list of questions I have compiled, I have been walking around with a pn and piece of paper in my pocket for the last 3 days and each time I think of something else I make a note. I'll post this on a new thread though to make it easier to read. And then people can add their notes as they wish, thanks to viv and chev for the questions, I had most of yours viv but totally missed yours chev so thanks for reminding me and that is now on the list.

Oh, and Social Services called - they can help with the support for Ryan but not with the housing side, they told me to speak to the psyciatrist (who I have not seen yet) so I think I might go and get another letter from the doctor, speak to the special needs health visitor to see if she can write me a letter, and also to my own HV!!
  • I cannot add more than any of your other well wishers-You have an abundance in terms of positive thoughts, positive attitude, grit and determination.
I truely hope that everything turns out well for you and your lovely family.
    God bless.

So, my list of questions (quite long so bear with me). At the bottom of the questions you will see reference to an email that we will deal with last of all, I want answers to all of these first so we know what we are dealing with. I will use the word 'housed' (this means in a secure property, not hostel/temp accomodation) as this is how the council refers to it when they write to the MP, you'll see more when you get to he end:

    1) When are we actually 'homeless'? (the laws they quote say when a court ording possession has been issued. ie next Wednesday)
    2) Will we get more points on 16th? (whether we stay or go/are classed as homeless then or not)
    3) How are we able to get more points?
    4) How will we get 'housed' if we do not have more points? (noted that only other way would be to be in a hostel I think)
    5) Now a court has ordered possession are we given priority or do we have to wait for 'the list' and bid? (personally I think they should tell the HA that we are waiting so it get offered, not that we have to bid with 100 other families - but that is my biased opinion, LOL)
    6) What if nothing comes up?
    7) Can we opt to live in a caravan (we have discussed this here and have nw thought of asking on Freecycle if there are local landowners around with planning permisson for a caravan for a few months - is this wise?? Be honest)
    8) How many points will we have if living in a caravan? (I have a list of points they allocate so she can show me - be prepared and all that)
    9) What happens to our pets if we have to go into a hostel/temp accomodation? (my cat is on medication and has to have a daily injection)
    10) What happens to our furniture
    11) What hapens on 16th? Where do we go?
    12) Can we apply to North Herts Housing? (that area is 4 miles north but we are covered by East Herts, I have the forms but it can take 4-6 weeks to process, we do not have this and need to make sure they won't try and push up onto being NH responsibility instead so we end up with nothing as that would be daft)
    13) What other HA can we apply to? (check there are none I have missed, I have rung quite a few lately, North herts are the only ones taking applications but they work with a different council borogh and this is stated on the application form)
    14) Do we have to wait for bailiffs to arrive? What happens if they just give us a few days notice?

    About the Hostel/Shared Accomodation:

    1) If in a hostel:
Will there be a bath? (Ryan is terrified of the shower)
Will we have our own toilet? (Ryan cannot hold, it has to be there and then - he has his own toilet here that is just for him, it could mean he has to go back in nappies so would they see this as acceptable for a 4 year old who is already toilet trained? He refuses to use a potty, it just an AS thing, he never has.
Will we need to share these facilities with other people?
Ryan needs a set daily routine and he will be disrupted if he does not have this (If someone else is in the bathroom for example and he is not able to have a bath - if we are home late and try and take him to bed without a bath for example he will cry and scream and try to get in the bath fully clothed and run the waer and will refuse to go to bed, so we have to run an inch of water for him to have his bath before bed. It sounds strange I guess but it is part of his routine that he has to have in his day.
What if he is making a noise/having tantrums/screaming for hours, will we get thrown out of the hostel?
What if he damaged anything - walls/furniture/etc...
What if people complain about us and the noise he makes?
What happens if hubby is 'On Call' and has to leave in the night?

Lastly, in the email that we have from the Senior Housing Options Officer to the MP is states this and this is why I refered to the word 'housed' as they refer to 'property': ..... because it give us more time to identify a property that would be suitable for her needs, thus avoiding the need to place her family in temporary accomodation which would be particularly difficult in this case'

My questions regarding this email (of which I have highlighted the above and will give her a copy) are:
    1) If MP was told this, why are we being told to bid if we do not have enough points to get anything, thus leaving our only option 'temporary accomodation' (housing feedback on 'the list' shows we did not have enough points to secure the other properties)
    2) CHO has noted that temp acc would be difficult for us so what help is being given to help us avoid this.
    3) How can we get 'housed' if we do not have enough points? If the council/doctors accept Temp acc to be difficult for us then why is no extra help being given?

Phew, so I think that is it - can anyone think of anything else that might be useful. I think this has answered some of the question viv haad mentioned, we have already been told it is only bidding that gets us somewhere. Please fire away and let me know if you can think of anything else or if I might have worded something incorrectly.

This afternoon I have the housing stratagies for EH to plough through to see if I can pick up anything that migt be useful.

Oh yes, and we are also taking hubbies recent wage slip as he had no overtime last month and the pay is low as overtime is not guarenteed. his pay was almost the price of a months rent on local property so I cannot see why they will not give us the extra 10 points which will make all the difference. Also that our Tax Credits are due to stop as they have decided we now owe them money, and I want the additional 10 points they show on their points sheet that you get if you 'have insufficient income to secure your own property'. They have not give us those points so we want to know why not as we are entitled and they could make all the difference.

And now I am off to have 'school dinner' with my son. Yummy. Probably need lunch when i get back though as the childrens portions are tiny, LOL!!

I just wanted to say that this is all about Ryan, it is not about me, hubby or DD - we can all deal with these things and the life that being in a hostel would mean, we can adapt - but Ryan won't and this is what I want to address with then, if they are not going to listen then I will make them all listen, even if I lose. If I have to go to a hostel I have no problem but I will go there knowing I have fought to get what my son needs to ensure he is not disrupted physically and mentally by all of this - possibly een setting him back to where he was a year ago - and although I am biased I do think that the council are wrong to not help, they are a government body and noone would accept if a doctor wiped their hands of a sick child, would they? The little things we take for granted will turn his life upside down and I need to do my upside to ensure this down not happen otherwise I am not doing wha a mother should be, am I? (Just needed to get that off my chest, sorry) This morning we had 45 minutes of tears, violence, throwing things and biting himsel - because we ran out of rice krispies and he could still see the box on the side. I really do not understand why the housing people cannot come and spend an afternoon with me to see how things like this affect us day to day to realise. or maybe they just don't want to as we then become another statistic for them. Who knows. But I think it is shocking that with all the proof they have asked for an need, that a week before a court has ordered us to leave we are still no further forward than where they knew we would be 5 months ago.

I'm happy to record Lost for you - it's an essential requirement and you would be totally negligent to your friends if you didn't watch it. I haven't used DVD recorder yet, so I'll make sure I test it out before then. And of course you don't have to pay for the discs you silly blue monkey!
You'll probably be inundated with recording offers now if you offer your opinion here. I haven't looked much at the Lost thread as it gets me going too much and visions of Sawyer "disturb" my dreams :D

Sorry that I can't offer help on questions etc, but it does look like you have expert advice from all the admirable peeps here :T

Still sending wishes for all good things to you and yours.

    Hi BM,

There's a catch all question that I'd add to your list: "Is there anything else that you think it is important that I should know, or that I can do to improve my situation that we've not discussed"? I always add a question like that to the end of any formal interview. You'd be amazed what you do miss!

    Good luck tomorrow!
