Thanks Silvercar, depending on where we end up we will be entitled if in private but not in LA, do you know if it gets 'backdated' at all? I've never claimed anything before so am a bit lame on all the benefits stuff. When hubby lost his job they made it so hard to claim (even though he had industrial illness) and we ended up with about £60 a week on benefits, how do people live on benefits?? But he just applied for every job he could and posted his CV on Monster and he was back in work a month later.

A bit of 'possible' good news, I am not really sure what it means though so I am thinking it is positive rather than negative.

I got a letter from the council this morning with my new points total - from someone different to the lady I have been dealing with in the past (which surprised me, I thought I would deal with just one lady) but my new points are 103 (I need 120) so I gave them a call and asked them when I was to call about being homeless, was it on 3rd February, and she told me that I had to call when I had a date to go to court. Anyhow I then mentioned that I would be having to do this because of problems with Ryan and the situation that never occured with him damaging the property we are in and because we did not have enough points to be considered for housing, she then mentioned that she had just put my name onto a list for a home visit. I guess it is to make sure I am not lying in my letters about Ryan and the bits I have asked to be taken into consideration, but the lady is coming next Monday to visit me at home. I am not sure what happens then but I am hoping it is positive in showing we need rather than we want, I will let you know. I can't believe I have to wait until next week, I am nervous already, LOL.

Sometimes it just helps to get things down on here (and have a whinge if having a bad day!!) so thank you all for listening.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that when I was living in a 2 bed council property and asked to go back on the list to have a 3 bed house I also had a home visit. The housing officer said it was neccessary for them to visit me at home just to check my circumstances and to go through your application with me.I had no special circumstances at that time and just wanted a bigger property as my then 2 year old was sharing with my husband and me.

OK, cool thanks. Makes sense, I am entitled to 2 beds but have asked for 3 so that DD can have her own room away from her brother. I asked if there was anything I needed to have and they told me to make sure I had my NI Numbers. Did they ask this of you? I was a bit confused as my NI Numbers are not really ID are they and a passport would have been better.

Just edited to add, the letter came from the Housing Nominations Department and this is where the lady is coming from. I think I am being way too optimistic now, but I do have my feet on the floor. It's just nice to have something good to think about rather than everything being down. I am not sure it means anything at all, it probably doesn't, but thinking happy about it means I can sleep better at night. The last 2 nights I managed to get to sleep almost straightaway and that is the first time since this all started 2 months ago.

It must be reassuring to know that someone from the council is looking at your case, as opposed to your papers sitting in someones tray.

Will Ryan be home when the lady comes?

yes, I wondered if it was because I emailed the councillor last week. I spoke to my friend who works for a HA and she told me it will be to check I have not told 'fibs' on my application but I am releived they are coming around because I can show them the damage that Ryan has done around the house. It just is reassuring that they are looking at everything but it also goes to show that you can't lie otherwise you get caught out - it is so not worth it!!

Yes, Ryan will be here. When the HV came around he spent half his time leaping over her so hoping the council lady gets the same treatment. Of course, you can be rest assured he will be on his best and quiet behaviour!! That would be sleeping, LOL!!

When mum first told us she was selling in november I looked on their websites as I was going to register with them as well but they don't have 'open' lists in this area, all the stock goes to the council. it says on the site that 100% stock is given to the council. From what I gather, the council allocate the housing but the HA are the ones that look after it and you pay rent to them. It used to be HA around here and then about 2 years ago it all changed and we got the letter telling us that the council would not be holding the list. Seems all a bit upside down to me, tbh as I would have thought HA would deal with it all. I have a friend who works for a local HA but they tend to deal with properties going further into Londond, she told me that some of the properties are empty for up to a year and there is never any rush, but any they get for this area are passed over to the council. I think we live in a small area considering the size of the other councils around here and I guess this is why. I have also registered with a local landownder who offers long term tenancies like the council, but he likes to keep local people in the houses but he did not have anything either. I am told I am on the list. I even emailed Tesco as they own many of the houses around their stores (I guess it means that they buy the land and houses and their tenants cannot complain about propsed changes or expansions) but they did not even grace me with a reply.
