Well that plan went t*ts-up! Ended up having to change plans quite a lot. MIL came here instead, so what with dd's b/f being here as well had to rustle up something for 6. Scraped together enough fish from the freezer (3 salmon, 1 smkd hadd and 3 cod) to make a rather good fish pie. Fortunately the pudd I had made (10" treacle tart!) was big enough and smothered in custard (see milk episode below)

Last night ended up with a quick plan... gammon from freezer, egg and beans.

Twinks hobnobs done for first time for Youth orchestra committee meeting and they went down a storm. No M&S luxury chocolate collection when I'm hosting the meeting!

While all this was going on ds cleared the old fridge that we had been using as overflow at christmas... and found 3 x 4pt milk. Varying degrees of OOD. Have made yoghurt, even though haven't started previous lot. Some of it is fine even though OOD, as it has been in closed fridge only occasional collection and delivery, also in cool room.

  • djbd1973, the sausages go down a treat in our house too!!!

I used to meal plan for 2 weeks at a time, but I found I was always making too many changes in the 2nd week. So now I stick to planning a week at a time (although I usually have a fair idea what we're having the next week anyway).

I usually try to take 1 day about once a month and do 3 big batches of spag bol, 3 of the bacon & mushroom pasta & 3-4 batches of lasagne then freeze the lot.

I usually make extra stew (just to freeze) when we're having that, as DS is 12 and eats what we eat, but DD has turned 3 and doesn't like curry or chilli so the stew is a handy h/m ready meal for her. :j

    welcome to the thread!!
the salmon sounds lovely, do you have a recipe?

I typed a reply at work and then the firewall zapped it

Mix together lemon juice, light soy sauce, grated ginger and finely sliced red chillis. Season with black pepper and a little garlic salt.

Place salmon fillets in a dish with somne diced spring onions, pour marinade over, cover with clingfilm and leave for 30 minutes. The salmon will change colour slightly but this is because of the acid in the lemon juice and is not a problem.

Then there is two ways of continuing, depending on if you are trying to lose weight ;)

    Weight Loss Way
Wrap each salmon fillet loosely in foil. Bake for 20 minutes at 180, the fish is better slightly undercooked.
Serve with a selection of stir fried veg - we usually have cabbage, leeks, carrots, broccoli, baby corn, mangetout, beansprouts, peppers and mushrooms

    The Fattening Way
Spray a griddle pan with some sesame oil, fry the fillets skin side down for 5 minutes or till the skin is crispy. turn over, pour the remaining marinade over the fish.
Once fish is cooked remove it from the pan and keep warm, add more lemon juice to the pan, small amount of cornflour to thicken and tablespoon of honey.
Serve the fish on top of noodles and stir fried veg or couscous and roasted veg
Pour the thickened sauce over and enjoy

    Both ways are very tasty:D
