Why not sign up for the BigBarn newsletter http://www.bigbarn.co.uk/
it lists whats in season, gives recipe ideas, is funny! & the site lists local places near to you to buy it all from! & its only once a month so wont fill your email box up with junk!
ps i dont work for them or any thing just love the service I get ok lolI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Apples
English apples are in season from late August (Discovery, Worcester Pearmain) until March. Obviously they are only picked Aug-Sept but apples store well. Some store better than others-earlies don't last but varieties like Cox's Orange Pippins and Bramley's for cooking store for months.0 -
Did anyone see Gordon Ramsay talking on BBC this morning saying we should only use in-season fruit and veg? ...Good on him!
I definitely find seasonal stuff cheaper and read about https://www.iminseason.com in the paper - the site tells you when everything is in season and has heaps of recipes - really handy.0 -
:T Thanks for that, looks interesting. I would love to eat local in-season food, but there isn't a farmers market or anything like that near me! I do have a veg box delivery, but even some of that isn't from the UK!
P.S I didn't see what he said but curious to know what happens to 'exotic' foods like bananas and mangos? Is Gordon Ramsey saying we shouldn't eat those as they're not ever going to be in season in the UK!!Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560 -
Thanks for the link. Some nice sounding recipes on there that I'm going to give a try:T0

With the change in supermarkets and such like stocking out of season fruit and veg I have lost track of what is in season when. Would I be right in thinking that this weekend might be good to look at PYO for strawberries or is it still a little early? Also does anyone know of a website listing in season fruit and veg when it is at its best, cheapest, most plentiful and nicest - not to mention environmentally least impact.0

Hi All
Hoping you can help me. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which vegetables are in season at the moment. I think I remember reading on here somewhere that these would maybe be less expensive than some others (does that make sense?!)
Then all I need to work out is what to do with them?!
Linz xoxoxIts hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........
People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!0
