Barclays PIN Sentry -8 digit code not reconized!!!

Just a thought - when the code comes up on the pin sentry device it is 8 numbers with a space in the middle. You do NOT have to leave this space when typing in the code.
I made this mistake the first time I used mine and it did not work.
Are you leaving a space after the first four numbers?Born to shop;)0 -
No unfortunately not you need to request one. Barclays don`t do anything automatically nowdays. When I got my new card it would not work with my existing PIN number and they had randomly alterered the PIN number.
I then had to request a new PIN number and it took 8 working days to arrive!!!
When you do contact them, then stress that you wish to retain your existing PIN number, otherwise you will have the same problem as I experienced.
Any further problems will be dealt with by our helpful Frau Deanna Oppenheimer - I don`t think......................

You can say that again! Just been on the phone to them whilst I was online here. Had to speak to three departments before somebody admitted that I would indeed need a new card. Strange, as they said my previous PIN would be valid (I queried them about this). Basically, if I had not bothered phoning, they would have sent out a PinSentry device that would not even accept my old card! Thanks for your help.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Someone posted a link to a reported "hack" of the device, which seems to have been deleted. Anyway, it hasn't been hacked but some clever bod had connected the device to an SMS card so he could leave the reader at home and simply send a text message to it, in return it sent a current passcode. This is a much better system, I guess Barclays could do the same and allow people to request a passcode by send them a text message, but then again, why should we pay for a text message every time we want to logon to our bank account. Just to re-itterate, the device was not "Hacked", someone just made the screen and keyboard remote instead.0

I know and understand the security reasons for it - but frankly, unless you're the sort of moron who gives out their bank details at the first sight of a phishing e-mail, you've no need for PIN-Sentry.
I have a lot of sympathy with these posters:'We are experiencing high volumes of calls from people who do not want to use a primitive piece of plastic, designed by Barney Rubble and conceived by a bank who will not go in and spend its profits on rejigging a lame security system that has the Alliance and Leicester laughing their heads off.'Firsttimebuyer wrote: »I travel a lot and access my accounts when i'm out. I cant be bothered to take this calculator with me all the time... I've today applied and got accepted for an A&L premier current account and will move my accounts over there in the next few months.
Barclays have lost, and will continue to lose, a lot of customers because of their shoddy approach. Oh, and shifting their call centres to India hasn't helped - I had trouble enough conversing with their staff when they were based in Newcastle!0 -
I didn't know anything about PINsentry until I tried to set up a rather urgent transfer to someone just before Christmas...
I must have missed the notification saying I wouldn't be able to pay anyone new without this.0 -

Try this new approach.
Transfer everything to another account ,but leave in 0.05p (oh yes, paper statements please!) so that they are losing money to administer to your needs.
............if we all do it ,its the equivilant of a communal chainsaw cutting down a tree to fall on a bank.0 -
I (finally) just received a rather generic reply to my email:
Badger:
What on earth has happened to your online banking services? I used to be thrilled with it, but now find it completely useless! The
things I have tried to do recently:
- Transfer money. Apparently I now cannot do this until I've upgraded security. Fine, but could you not have let me know about this in advance
so that I could be upgraded ready in time for my next transfer?
- View bill payments for the last 3 months. Apparently I didn't earn or spend a penny last September or October! I rely on my online banking as a
reference point for these types of transaction, and I expect them to remain visible for at least 6 months. Is it really worth you skimping on
webspace?
- By the time I've been through your secure log-on, why can't I change address? (I'm young, I don't do post).
After X years of loyalty, this is enough to tempt me away to another bank account. I don't expect you to make any improvements, but I hope you
realise that your online services do have an effect on how your customers perceive you.
Barclays:
Dear Badger,
Thank you for your email dated 3/1/08.
I was sorry to hear of your disappointment at not being registered for the PINsentry service and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Previously we were only distributing PINsentry card readers to online users who regularly set up payments to someone new. Our records indicate
that you have been upgraded to the PINsentry service on XXXX.
Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience this has caused and I regret that we have upset a valued customer and I hope your
future dealings with Barclays will allow us to demonstrate the first class service to which you are entitled.
Please be assured that all customer comments are passed, to our Project Development Team, who are currently working on enhancements to future
service upgrades to our Internet site. Many of these additional features will be as a result of customer feedback.
Yours sincerely,
