What annoyed me about this was that I wasn't informed about its introduction until after I tried to make an online payment and found my path blocked!

I always log on through my Egg Money Manager, so when I clicked the "order PinSentry" button, I couldn't even get access to my account summary any more because of the additional logon screens that Egg couldn't handle.

I can only use the telephone now, which as someone who likes to check their account daily and carefully manage their incomings and outgoings, is frankly not good enough.

What's more, I emailed Barclays with these concerns 3 times and never had a response.

    Dear Badger Lady,

You will be pleased to know that the friendly and considerate staff at Barclays online team have updated our Online Banking System as follows:-

If you use PIN Sentry but don`t have your card reader with you, Personal and Premier Customers can still login to Online Banking.

All you need to do is, select "Not got your card reader" on Step two of the log-in page.

Thanks - unfortunately, if you log in via Egg Money Manager, it automatically ticks "yes" and takes you to the PIN Sentry page (you don't have a chance to change it to "no").

This then throws up an error when it tries to submit, and asks some additional security questions (such as debit card number and date of birth). Once I complete these details, it tells me to ring the 0845 number.

Any idea why this won't let me in to see my account summary (despite the message above)? And why I have to come on an online forum to get my emails to customer services answered?

  • I've just spent today failing to get through to Barclays /and or being left on hold because I asked, politely to have my online account adjusted so I do not have to use PIN SENTRY and can just view my balances.

'We are experiencing high volumes of calls from people who do not want to use a primitive piece of plastic, designed by Barney Rubble and conceived by a bank who will not go in and spend its profits on rejigging a lame security system that has the Alliance and Leicester laughing their heads off.'
To think I have stuck with this crew for 40 years.I'm writing this here ,because my letter of complaint from their website was unable to be processed due to high volumes of ......la...la...laaa.
  • Oh yes !

Go to page two and fill in your card details and guess what ?It directs you to jolly old customer services ,who are experiencing large volumes of calls and are are unable to find their way out of the pit!

That's how I came to have pisnetry, logged on entered details same as always, couldn't get itn

Rung Bank to be told I must have entered my details wrongly (NO) and Pinsentry was the way to go, is this the sneeky way they operate.

I have just had to update to PinSentry this morning (because I was unable to transfer monies online from my barclays account to my Nationwide Flex account otherwise). I have the 'old' debit card (I think). If I need a new updated one, will barclays automatically provide one in the post, or will I have to ask for one. Thanks all.

^Thanks, presumably they automatically send out new updated ones to customers who have the old type ones? I can't believe what a palava this is: all I want to do is transfer monies online from my barclays account to my flex account! This is crazy!
