  • From Amazon T & C's (Not specifically Marketplace, though):

If a product's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will cancel your order and notify you of that cancellation.
  • I saw a Toshiba xd-he1 for around £23 as well - no sooner added to my basket than "unavailable......"

It was to be hoped that this was a loss-leader promotion and if we were quick .... anyway, it looks like an error and everything (Everything!) for this seller has been pulled.

Oh well, if our order is not honoured, then we're no worse off - we still won't have an external hard drive. And we ordered on the understanding that there could be a chance we'd lose the £30. It was a risk we were willing to take to possibly get something at a brilliant price.

No email's been received as of now to say it's been cancelled or that the price was incorrect, so who knows.

I think you have to take your chances with these obviously wrongly priced items. Didn't some people manage to bag a fantastic double bed for £2 not so very long ago? They struck lucky. It might happen again, but if not, then I'll give a wry grin and think "it was worth a shot".

Exactly! I'm pretty sure they will turn round and say it was their mistake and they will refund the amount we paid without shipping the products.

There is no reason to suspect that they will keep our money and not deliver the products ordered (although I'm not holding my breath!), and if you paid with a credit card you would be even better protected (D'Oh, I used vouchers!). Also, Amazon should act as a mediator to try and sort these things out, so should be on-side to get a refund if they dont deliver in this case (but you never know!).

Anyway, no emails so far saying they are not going to ship it, and the prce has gone back up to the correct amount on amazon now. Just have to wait and see!

Excellent attitude and if only it was replicated by other MSE users this site would be so much more civilised. Personally, I didn't order this as IMO it didn't stand a chance of coming off so I couldn't see any point wasting my and other peoples time trying to order.

Sadly though I suspect this thread will, like all others of this ilk degenerate into whining by people "I paid and I want my product, where's the small claims weblink and what is Watchdog's email address". It was an obvious misprice and mistake by the people who offered it for sale, get over it and move on, You haven't lost out on anything, Amazon will give you your money back if indeed it came out of your account.

    From Amazon confirmation e-mail:

For items purchased from third parties in Marketplace, zShops or Auctions, this e-mail confirms the completion of your contract to purchase those items.

So is this a one sided contract, or is the vendor obliged to fulfill his part of the deal?

The vendor is obliged to fulfill the sale, as per the Amazon participation agreement. They aren't *legally* compelled to supply the goods(but are legally obliged to refund if they can't).If they frequently break the Amazon agreement by failing to supply items they will eventually be barred from marketplace. Amazon also guarantees the transaction through the AZ process, but beware - Amazon marketplace buyers are only allowed a certain number of AZ claims in their lifetime, so best to use them wisely.

Same thing happened last year when an Amazon marketplace seller listed some all-in-one printers at silly prices. Amazon's response was: yes, technically the seller has a contract with you, but this is a genuine mistake due to a software failure and it is unlikely they will honour the contract. I spoke to the seller whose response was: this is a genuine mistake and we can't afford to honour all of the orders - if we did we would go bust, we are a small reseller not a huge international corporation.

At that point I let it go. Small resellers operate on very low margins and they shouldn't be hung out to dry when something outside their control goes awry.

If I were a betting man I'd say that not one person will get their disk drive.

  • So, does anyone know anywhere that you can get a good deal on a NAS drive ? I've been after one for ages so that I can connect it to the wifi router then stream music off it without the PC being on all the time.

Try your local PCWorld for a HP Media Vault mv2010. Not available online, so don't look!

Currently on clearance - I paid £79.97 for a 300GB one yesterday. Expandable to 1.2TB.

    Typically £250 everywhere else :D

£80 will buy you a bobby basic NAS, but this is in a different class.

Otherwise eBay is your best bet.

If you don't want one that works with Vista (most NAS drives don't work with Vista at all/properly), try a SmartDisk SOHO NAS or a Buffalo Linkstation. Both can be found on eBay.
