Just tried deleting the saves and recopying them, still the same result. I get a brief flash of the dashboard screen, followed by the disc error message. I'm stumped, I don't have a clue which part isn't working!0

Just seen this thread, I have 2 of these you can purchase chips for around a tenner to mod them.
Also with the correct bootdisc they can be switched to NTSC that then enables the High Def output 720p and 1080i with component leads found on ebay.
They make great media centres0 -
Interesting....
" Some drives (particularly the v1.0 Thomsons series) can reach a point where they have trouble reading discs (retail or backup). This, of course, isn't a problem exclusive to Thomson drives."
Mine is an early Xbox (2002), do you think I ought to return it tomorrow instead of/as well as picking up a new Splintercell?
*Edit* no, found some pics and mine isn't a Thompson drive, still could be faulty I guess, or even just dirty?0 -

They do reccomend deleting any game saves then retrying.
Another thing to remember is that if it has been hard modded you can get a situation (dependent on configuration of the internal cables) where turning it on the eject button will cause the sypmtons that you are seeing as the xbox tries to boot normally with eject and xbmc with the power button.
Probably faulty though:o0 -
Would that be any game saves for splintercell, or all the gamesaves on the machine? I've tried deleting and readding the splintercell saves, but not the others on there. We also got disc errors on Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets, the first level works fine, but the second freezes all over the place.
I tried resetting the clock to the correct time, which I hadn't bothered doing before ... after this, I got a blank screen for about 30 seconds between selecting and the disc read error appearing.
Don't think it is hard modded, as I've only ever seen the standard dash? I did try turning it on with the eject button and the power one, same dash each time.
Really don't know what to do ... it's a nice tidy looking machine, but that's no help if it doesn't work.0 -

I'll go give it a try. Been running back and forth from Xbox to PC all night trying things!
Want to be sure I've tried everything before I carry that great heavy thing round town tomorrow. That is assuming Game have any left of course!

Ok, removed every saved game from it, including the splintercell, recopied splintercell from the pc, put it in, tried to load the game, and exactly the same result. Would you say it is knackered?0

If I have a softmodded Xbox, could I make an image of the hard drive using my pc and then write the image to the hard drive of a non modded xbox thus making that one modded? In theory this makes sense to me but practice has a habit of making a mockery of theory!0

Zola, sorry that won't work, the hard drive is locked to an individual xbox.
