You wouldn't get me eating in a Weatherspoons if they were giving it away.

Who in their right mind actually enjoys the food, anyone that does really should broaden their horizons.

Depends how much money you have to spend, me personally and my friends think it's great value for money, you must be loaded and think it's for poorer people!!!:p

Children should be encouraged to eat food in pubs, for many of them it will be the only chance to sit round a table with the family and a knife and fork. Compared to the greasy rubbish sold by mcdonalds and other similar places, most pub food is much more nutritious.
if we're talking about wetherspoons though, i would say there is zero nutritional value to their pre-cooked/frozen/bland/processed meals! probably marginally but not hugely better than having a mcdonalds!

Full marks to Wetherspoons, who have got their new child policy spot on.

After eating, children will quickly get bored and want to play. As a pub is not a playground, it's totally right that wetherspoons encourage families to drink up and leave after a moderate amount of alcohol.

What responsible parent would want to be in a pub for hours on end with their bored children running riot? The problem is that not all parents are responsible and there are those who want to treat a pub like an all-day-creche-with-a-bar.

I take it you are over 50 or have not got any children!!...... TRUE??

Agree totally with the alcohol policy - there aren't any facilities in their pubs for kids so they shouldn't be hanging about ages!

Also, not being snobby, but you did sometimes see parents drinking heavily with their kids in Wetherspoons, because it's cheap - not very fair is it?

    Another with no children!!

i don't think you can assume this person has no children

surely it is fair to say that a wetherspoon pub isn't the kind of place children should be hanging around in all day - how boring for them!! it's a good place for the family to get a great value meal together but there's not much else in it for the kids.

there are places like wacky warehouse restaurant/pubs which are much more entertaining for them

Lets put a different spin on all this!

Would you really want to take your kids to Mcdonalds for a burger and then really want to stay afterwards for a few more drinks?

The kids would definately get bored and the parents evenmoreso.

The way I see it is that the prior to the smoking ban there was a choice on whether you wanted to drink/(eat) at a smoking or non-smoking bar - now we dont have that choice anymore as all pubs are now non-smoking.
We currently have a choice whether to drink/(eat) in a pub that allows kids, has a no-kids policy or has a 2 drinks policy to force shorter attendance of kids on the premises.

I feel that we still have the choice in this matter and Wetherspoons should be congratulated for giving the general public the freedom of choice.

If you dont like the decision - dont go there and if profits drop at Wetherspoons im sure the rule would be amended.

At last I can go for a drink without smoke and screaming kids running about the place!

well i think its a terrible policy, I go in to my local W & have a g&t while we wait for food as it usually takes 15-25 mins, I have a wine with my meal & another inbetween/after the meal, sometimes I just grab chips off the kids plates if im not upto a full meal myself with a max of two drinks while they eat, why ? well the food is better than fast food for the kids & thats why I go to W

now im being told I cant ?

its not like im planning to drive home.........its not like im drunken in charge of the kids, its not like im having 3 pints........

You would only be lower than the alcohol content of 3 pints of ordinary lager by one single Gin if you have a single G&T and 2 glasses of wine, even small ones! I'm no puritan and I'm sure you are quite able to handle the amount you drink. But due to the increase in the strength of wine and beers and the increase in shot measures most of us are drinking more than we think.

Weatherspoons' new policy may well concentrate the minds of the boozy babysitters (we've all seen them ignoring their charges as the kids go to increasing lengths to get some attention) And maybe not.
