I managed to get a free eye test with D&A through one of my newsletters from Nectar.

I'm booked in for this Saturday :)

I used that method in November to get my eyes tested free but their prices for glasses were crazy. I went to Asda opticians where they did 2 pairs of designer frames for £90. Total cost for 2 pairs of glasses including coated lenses for driving £130, D & H had no frames under that price most were nearer £200 and they wanted me to have varifocals which I really don't need. I only wear my slightly correcting glasses for driving when I am tired and the other pair are correction for when I read.

  • Hi

On the link mrmean sent, once you've put in your details, etc, you do get a voucher. But on the T & C of the voucher it says "The Nectar number on the Nectar card should match the number on the voucher". I just see a voucher number on the bottom; is that the "number on the voucher" that has to match the nectar number? Just wondering if this only worked for 1 person, ie, the person whose nectar card it was!

Also, on the other offer, where it isn't ANY branch, but a limited few, it says that it's not dependent on buying glasses; this one doesn't mention that.

Hopefully someone here can answer - thanks.
  • Hi,
The link was in an email to me from D&A. The voucher number is not similar to my Nectar number in any way so I guess this is just a hangover from when you used to get a free eye test and 100 Nectar points!

Used voucher today with no problems. Nobody asked to see Nectar card either!

I am late 40s, I've never had an eye test before. But when I recently picked up a book I couldn't read the words and had to pop out to the supermarket to buy some of those cheap reading glasses. The 1.25 size worked a treat.

It wouldn`t do any harm to get your eyes checked out as it is possible you may need different strenghs for each eye. Although you may be able to see with the glasses you have bought, they may not be strong enough for one or both eyes therefore your eyes will need to work harder to focus. These type of glasses can sometimes do more harm than good.

My sister used her free voucher and she said that the assistant got carried away with finding her some glasses (said that lens couldn't be renewed in her old pair because they weren't from D&A). She had no idea how much they would cost but they convinced her that it would be cheaper to get a new pair. She didn't know final price until they said they would do it in installments - half now and half when glasses arrive. Needless to say they have charged £77 to her card with another £70 to follow when she collects them. She really can't afford this, is there anyway she can cancel the order?

I had one done for free ages ago. It was a good service, fast and friendly, lasted about 20 mins :) They weren't even pushy about me buying specs at the time :)
