Free eye test for everyone at Dollond & Aitchison

UPDATE: 9 Jan 2pm Unfortunately the free eye test offer has now gone, although a half price eye test, worth about £13, is still available.

What's the deal?

Dollond & Aitchison is offering a free eye test (these are free in Scotland anyway), usually priced at £27.50, at any of its 380 branches until 3 Feb. It's available to all who haven't had a test at D&A within the past two years.

How to get it

To claim the free test, go to D&A's website's special offers, fill in the short form and a voucher will be emailed to you. You'll need to print this out.

Then give Dollond & Aitchison a call on 0800 052 8000 to arrange an examination before 3 Feb. It's worth mentioning you have this voucher when booking the appointment, plus remember you MUST take it with you.

You don't have to buy glasses from D&A

D&A's offering this freebie as it hopes you'll buy specs or lenses from it if you need them, but this isn't a prerequisite. Before parting with your cash, read both my Glasses Buying and Contact Lens cost cutting articles to help slash the amount you pay.

4. Offer only available to customers who have not had an eye test at Dollond & Aitchison in the last 2 years.
5. This reduction is not dependent on the purchase of a complete pair of glasses.
6. Only one voucher per visit, which must be surrendered at time of examination.
7. Photocopies will not be accepted.

But will they give you the prescription? I've heard of opticians that refuse? What can you say to them if they do say no you can't take it away?

    Skint_Catt,

Yes, my local D&A did provide me with a prescription. I didn't take the free eye test offer, my workplace uses EyeCare vouchers. Just make an excuse not to buy from D&A, eg: I'm running late to meet a friend or there is a local D&A near to where I work, I'll buy my glasses from them etc. Just assure them you will buy your glasses from D&A in order to get the prescription in your hand.

I have bought some designer D&G glasses from www.perfectspecs.co.uk, the same pair at D&A were £220 without lenses. Mine from www.perfectspecs.co.uk are costing me £130 with free lightweight scratch resistant lenses, plus my workplace are paying £50 towards these glasses as I need these for VDU use.
  • Great offer from D&A !

I got a free eye test at D&A,asked for my prescirption ( no problem there) bought a great frame designer frame off ebay for only £10 (saw it in local optician for £90!) and then sent it to a lab that advertises on ebay (eye2eye04 is their ebay member name).

They charged me £38.00 all in for my special thinned lenses that cost me £99.00 last time in Spcesavers and i got them back in 3 days (the Opticians took 10 days last time). :T
  • Think I need glasses as all I can see is half price eye test?!

They must be inundated with applications, as I applied at 9am this morning, and have not had a call back within the 2hours they promised in my reply email.

If they don't call by tomorrow, I may call them.

Try F5 on the page to refresh and then it should be in the middle of the page just above 20% off specs (or something)

Forgive me - I've just reclicked the link and its gone! The offer is no more!
