I used this offer about 2 years ago and whilst I was lucky enough not to need glasses they did insist on spending time with me talking about the kind of frames that I could have if I decided to have glasses!! Still, it was a free test!0

A word of warning about this offer - by all means take advantage of it - but DO NOT buy your glasses from D&A - they cost at least double any other High street optician and their anti-breakage policy is worthless.
When my daughter took up this offer, they insisted that they were the 'cheapest on the high street' and practically cornered her into a buy - they sat her down at the payment desk and told her that her eyesight would get worse unless she changed the lenses asap. They not only grossly overcharged her for the lenses (£180 - when vision express quoted £75 including frames!) they also broke her designer glasses frames and refused to pay for damages ... or give us a refund. We have complained, but they have flat out ignored our calls/letters/emails.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Wouldn't dream of it!!!Heard too many bad stories about them ordering wrong frames, wrong lenses, not answering the phone etc
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I emailed D&A advising that the offer was showing expired but it was on their offers page and they sent me the voucher by email and apologised!MSE_Archna wrote: »UPDATE: 9 Jan 2pm Unfortunately the free eye test offer has now gone, although a half price eye test, worth about £13, is still available.
What's the deal?
Dollond & Aitchison is offering a free eye test (these are free in Scotland anyway), usually priced at £27.50, at any of its 380 branches until 3 Feb. It's available to all who haven't had a test at D&A within the past two years.
How to get it
To claim the free test, go to D&A's website's special offers, fill in the short form and a voucher will be emailed to you. You'll need to print this out.
Then give Dollond & Aitchison a call on 0800 052 8000 to arrange an examination before 3 Feb. It's worth mentioning you have this voucher when booking the appointment, plus remember you MUST take it with you.
You don't have to buy glasses from D&A
D&A's offering this freebie as it hopes you'll buy specs or lenses from it if you need them, but this isn't a prerequisite. Before parting with your cash, read both my Glasses Buying and Contact Lens cost cutting articles to help slash the amount you pay.

Great offer from D&A !
I got a free eye test at D&A,asked for my prescirption ( no problem there) bought a great frame designer frame off ebay for only £10 (saw it in local optician for £90!) and then sent it to a lab that advertises on ebay (eye2eye04 is their ebay member name).
They charged me £38.00 all in for my special thinned lenses that cost me £99.00 last time in Spcesavers and i got them back in 3 days (the Opticians took 10 days last time). :T0 -
Skint_Catt,
I have bought some designer D&G glasses from www.perfectspecs.co.uk, the same pair at D&A were £220 without lenses. Mine from www.perfectspecs.co.uk are costing me £130 with free lightweight scratch resistant lenses, plus my workplace are paying £50 towards these glasses as I need these for VDU use.
I just had a look on their website and I`ve saw a couple of pair that I like. Just goes to show how much these well known companies rip us off. Great find kam05 .... thanks very much0 -
I have just come back from my eye test..no problems. I was asked did I want to sort out glasses today. I said no as I am waiting for pay day. She said she would hold the prescription on their files and I asked could i have one too...got one no problem. Very nice they were too. Many thanks to OP as I have needed to go for quite a while.0

If the Opticians refuse to give you a copy of your prescription, please feel free to quote the Optician's Act (1989) at them.
Section 26, subsection (2) in Part IV of the act states that "it shall also be [the optician's] duty to give the person whose sight he has tested, immediately following the test, either a signed, written prescription for an optical appliance or a signed, written statement that he does not need to wear or use an optical appliance."
If you think you might have a problem, you can print off the relevant part and take it with you (http://www.optical.org/en/about_us/legislation/opticians_act.cfm)
If this still doesn't work, you can report them to the General Optical Council (the relevant complaint forms can be downloaded at http://www.optical.org/en/our_work/Investigating_complaints/How_to_make_a_complaint/index.cfm)Skint_Catt wrote: »But will they give you the prescription? I've heard of opticians that refuse? What can you say to them if they do say no you can't take it away?
