Torn between work and family..

Regarding the temping, if you have a Randstad bureau where you are then they often have lab assistant positions in hospitals. I hate working in offices, so I got a temp job at the National Blood Service which I really enjoyed, and gave me a good idea of what it's like working for the NHS (both good and bad!)0

Hey Everybody!
Thanks for all the recent replies, i've only just seen them as I havn't looked at the thread for a while..
I went for the interview at Norwich Union, they have no problem with my bankruptcy as I told them upfront and because of that they said it is fine with them.
So.. I have a job! I start monday, it's full time and i'm really excited!
I got the bus back from town when i had my interview, OH dropped me off and said to ring him if I wanted picking up, but I decided to brave the bus so I would stop worrying about it... It was ok, there was a gobby bloke on there but next time I will take my iPod so I don't have to listen to people like that shouting to their mates at the other end of the bus..
I'm happy, nervous, excited all at the same time.. having to get up at 7:30am will be hard because I havn't had to get up at any particular time for a long while.. I will certainly be sleeping in tomorrow as it' smy last day.. :rotfl: It's monday to friday and so I get weekends off, which is great.. and the job sounds pretty interesting..
Wish me luck! & Thank you sooo much for every single one of you that replied.. I have read every post and each of you in your own way inspired me to get things sorted and to start doing something productive.
As for Radiography, well, I am still doing OU studies and hopefully if I can pass them then I will have the option should I wish to go uni. If not then I will hopefully have a good career with Norwich Union. As for being a chef.. well, I'd love to, but not for me..
Thanks again xx

Congratulations!!
I moved 250 away from friends and family(due to partners job) so fully empathise with your accent/bus situation! Il be thinking about you on Monday, i'm sure you'll have a great day!
IMO I think you should continue your OU study along side your new job and apply for uni next year."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -
Great. I think it'll do you the world of good to be out and earning for a while...0

Thanks for the replies...
I am just taking a break from my open uni studying! I have got my butt into gear and started studying properly..!
I think what I am going to do is get my OU work done this year, get on with my job, and then apply for uni next year.. in the meantime I can save some money to get a car and just have savings in general, and hopefully I might be able to get a part time job with Norwich Union or another company. It will help if I have some recent work experience under my belt anyhow..
I think I do still want to go uni, or at least I should keep my options open until I decide for sure..

Hi - I've just been reading this thread and a few things occur to me. Firstly you are not sure about what you want to do long or short term. Secondly studying with the OU and at uni full time are huge commitments and you need to be really motivated for that to work, otherwise it is wasting your time and living on a low income for years unneccesarily. I wonder about your photography too. You say you are not very good at it but that you enjoy it. That would be a good starting point for taking it further. Why not find a local course - evening class or part time day - and sign up? It wouldn't commit you for very long, you would get out of the house and meet people and do something you like doing. It would also give you lots of skills if you want to take it further. As others have said it could be a good career for someone with a family too: it would fit in well and think of all those amazing photos and films you could take. Doing something creative and active could give you the lift you need short term to spurs you on.
Given the choice of doing something useful and doing something enjoyable, do the latter. The most unlikely interests can lead people down new paths careerwise.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
well done you!! in a few weeks you will really wonder how you ever managed to sit at home and really not need to do much!

with regards to the post above, if the OP wasnt working anyway, living on a low-wage that covers her work costs is all she needs, right?:A0
