So basically you have an insecure wireless network which can be hacked into with very little effort.
Log into your router and change the wireless encryption to WPA-PSK with the longest possible random key from here.
hi its just the way i was toold by AOL (sorry I am no expert on computers so if thats they way they said then this is the way i did!)
how do i change it

Sorry I'm just about to go out but all that you have to do is to log into your router e.g. 192.168.1.1 into your browser and go to the wireless encryption page and change it to WPA-PSK which is basically secure with a long random key. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
hi

but this has been going on for about 3-4 months

Whoever is administering that forum needs a visit from the clue fairy:
Name: cache-los-ac02.proxy.aol.com
Address: 195.93.21.66
The reason that several people are logging in from the same IP address is that said IP address is one of AOL's proxy servers. Presumably (I've never used AOL) they're routing all http traffic via a bunch of proxies so of course people will be logging in with the same IP.0 -

You might want to edit your post to remove that person's email address.
It's a non issue, as mrtg0525 says it's an AOL proxy which will be used by hundreds if not thousands of people. Why would the other person's email address be a problem? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Hi John77
Looks like mrtg0525 has solved the mystery and as BillScarab says just because the other guy is using AOL for internet access does not mean he should have to use an AOL email address.
I am acesssing the intenet via Pipex, but I can send email from any of my accounts, home, work, gmail or one of my website projects - none of these email addresses is the one that came free with my Pipex account. AOL is just the pipe that the data travels down - no matther what extra services like EMail that AOL supply you with.

To find the IP address of your router, from a PC connected via Ethernet, do Start, Run, type cmd then OK. In the black window type ipconfig and the Default Gateway number is the IP that you need to enter into your browser.
Go to the wireless settings page and change it from WEP to WPA-PSK and enter the longest random key that your router will accept. If you go here to get a random key and then copy and paste it into a notepad file it will make setting up the PC's easier as you can then copy and paste the key in when required. Once set-up on the PC's that connect to your router, that's it job done. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
hi
do i have to connect my laptop to the router or can it be done wireless (not 100% sure where the cable is)
also do i have to do this for each laptop connected to the router0 -
It may be nothing, the website your trying to use might have got it wrong. I sometimes use sites such as rapidshare and it tells me your ip address has just downloaded a file please wait, even though have not. Im using ethernet right and im fully secured. Two computers cant use the same ip address at the same time.0
