if you have wireless then make sure your security is on
your IP address is not fixed, assigned by your ISP when you connect so it's not impossible for the same ip to come up twiceEx forum ambassador

IP addresses are not always unique, many people in a particular area can have the same IP address, depends on your ISP. your "machine name/identifier" is unique.
For example I used to be unable to download from rapidshare because "your IP address has already downloaded it's daily allowance" When I had not gone anywhere near the website. Now I have discovered Rapidshare
a) does not make you wait 24 hours anymore
b) does not seem to be blocking me due to my IP address anymore except when it is genuinely me that has done the previous downloading. Either that means my IP address now is unique, or the people who share my current IP address do not DL from Rapidshare.0 -
so does this mean if somebody who live close to me could have the same ip address as me if we log on the same day/time0

IP numbers MUST be unique for the whole network system to function. You will get lost packets, also the dhcp server should not mix them either as there are allocated dynamicaly from a given pool or scope and generate an error to itself0

are you on virgin media0

Yes but the OP does not state over what timescale this is and her ISP could be providing with a dynamic IP and as such another user could have been logging into the same website with the same IP (as the users could be in the same pool of IP's from the ISP).
Long shot though this could be the answer.0 -
I was suspended from a mystery shopping forum for a similar thing. I'm with Virgin Media Broadband and no one else uses my computer or knows my passwords.
This is part of the e-mail they sent me,
The reason your account has been temporarily suspended is due to our system flagging up numerous different users on your account whilst viewing the boards - while your posts are from the same account, there is an anomaly with the online user appearing to have multiple IP addresses - this has been occurring for some time, and this would suggest that others are using your account to log in to XXXX, either with (or without) your knowledge - thus it was decided to take this action, to protect your account.
I never did get an explaination0 -
lots of people on virgin media (ex ntl) on the same ubr can APPEAR to have excactly the same ip address as ntl users connect through proxies, so although your actual ip wont be the same if 2 users in same area connect to same web site the web site sees the proxie IP address and presumes both visitors are the same.
can cause problem like getting barred from forums etc etc etc.0
