lots of people on virgin media (ex ntl) on the same ubr can APPEAR to have excactly the same ip address as ntl users connect through proxies, so although your actual ip wont be the same if 2 users in same area connect to same web site the web site sees the proxie IP address and presumes both visitors are the same.
can cause problem like getting barred from forums etc etc etc.

    Or change your proxy???;)

while your posts are from the same account, there is an anomaly with the online user appearing to have multiple IP addresses -

Just that small piece makes me think its not someone using your wireless or IP. they are complaining about the fact that you seem to be logging in from different IP addresses ... More like someone has your log in details and is using thier connection to browse as you meaning different (multiple) IP addresses

@ScoOter Knitwit is talking about a different problem to the original poster. However I agree the extract you comment on shows someone using one login form multiple locations, not a real issue for a user working from home, then work then mobile etc. More questionable if the logins are simultaneous. They were probably worried Knitwit had shared a paid for user ID.

@Knitwit My guess is that you were checking the forum whilst out and about, but only ever posting from one PC. That being the case they were wrong to suspend you.

It is a good job I do not use this mystery shop forum. I log in to sites I use from loads of IP addresses - home (Dynamic IP but rarely changes), Work (Static IP), Mobile phone on 3G (Dynamic changes every time you go online), Mobile phone on Wi-Fi hot spots (Dynamic each spot is a different IP) . It seems very restrictive to ban you for using a different IP. Using one User ID from two different IP's simultaneously would indicate a security problem if you have not shared your log in or had not logged in on say a phone and a PC at the same time.

@John77 My feeling is there is probably nothing to fret about regarding the IP address use. However we need to know a bit more about your set up to diagnose what may be happening.

How do you connect to the internet? (I am guessing a Combined Modem / Wi-Fi but tell us if it is a two boxes (ADSL modem and Wi-Fi router) or A usb modem.

Do you switch the internet connection off at the box or boxes when you have finished using it?

Are two people logging in with different user IDs from the same IP at the same time?

Or is it different user IDs at different times but the same IP address?

(Its only really bad news if its the same user ID and different IP addresses and you know its not you using your password somewhere else!)

Are your your software firewall, antivirus and anti spyware updated daily?

One other thing why did the site alert you, is thisw causing a problem? and how do you know the other person's email address?

Thanks for all the advice, I've never logged into the forum from any other pc or phone.

I am a member of another mystery shopping forum and when I asked the administrator on there I was told they'd not had any problems

So basically you have an insecure wireless network which can be hacked into with very little effort.

Log into your router and change the wireless encryption to WPA-PSK with the longest possible random key from here.
