Virgin email closing down

Great! That's all I need. At the moment I can't even get into my email to move stuff. When I try and log in on the VM page it's saying my email address is invalid.

Yes, I got one on 29 September telling me I need to sign up with Junara by 17 November or I'll lose my email.
I've had my virgin.net address as my primary email for decades and I've concluded that it's simply not worth the time and stress of attempting to change my email address with the countless organisations and people I'd need to.
I just hope moving to Junara goes smoothly, I'll post back and let you know how it goes.

I'm guessing they're planning on a lot of people not wanting the hassle of moving and changing everything. The problem is I don't want to have to pay further down the line so hopefully I can get it all sorted before my email appears. I wonder if it's alphabetical by surname or just selected at random.

I just hope moving to Junara goes smoothly, I'll post back and let you know how it goes.
And if it doesn't? I doubt if VM will be putting much resource behind fixing any problems.
Maybe just consider setting up another free email address and make sure that you have a copy of your email contacts held away from the VM system - just as a contingency.

I apparently moved myself to Junara successfully a couple of weeks ago, whether it is working properly or not is hard to say. I have however started moving all my contacts across to an existing Gmail account so that I can hopefully leave Junara before the £79 charge hits.
I still haven’t had any official notification from Virgin at all.

Seeing the writing on the wall, I moved off Virgin Media email about a year ago, and wonder whether people are aware of two Email Settings which can assist with this transfer?
Assuming you have set up your new email address and it is working successfully you can get VM to forward all incoming VM emails to your new email address, and return a message to the sender not more frequently than 7 days (or another chosen value) to indicate that your email address has changed.
__________1. Message to senders of incoming VM emails
In VM Email, go into Settings → Email and find Vacation Notice
Here you can put something like:
CHANGE OF EMAIL ADDRESS to <your new email address>
- Please note that I am now using an email address different from
that which I have used for the last twenty-odd years, because
Virgin Media’s email service is gradually being wound down. - When corresponding, please beware of the old address being
offered by your email client should you type the first few letters
of my name in the “To:” box.
You may also need to change my email address in your Contacts,
if you have saved it there. - There is no need to resend your current email - it has been forwarded
to my new email address, and I will reply in the usual way!
Above this text, make sure that the box is unticked in front of "Send Holiday Notice during this time only",
and select a sensible number of days for the setting "Days between notices for the same sender" (I put 7, arbitrarily). After you are happy with any other of the settings remember to click on the "Apply changes" box at the bottom!
__________2. Autoforward all incoming VM emails to your new email address
Return to VM Email, go into Settings → Email and find Auto forward
Fill in the box after "Forward all incoming emails to this address" with your new email address.
I also ticked the box in front of "Keep a copy of the message", just in case,,,
Again remember to click on the "Apply changes" box at the bottom!
__________As is traditional: "I hope this helps"!

Well to be honest, I have still not managed to create an account in Outlook or Thunderbird since migrating. I have tried all the settings and I've reached out to Junara on several occasions and just to warn anyone, they are not very good - either not read my emails or just link me to their help pages - which I've already tried.
I've been concise and very much to the point in my emails to them but their latest example is one whereby I've said to them the webmail (online version) works perfectly and they've clearly not read it because their next helpful suggestion is to ask me if webmail works and if not change my password…
Anyone who read my post about my blueyonder account not being overly important so using it as a test but my elderly relative who will be solely dependent on being able to switch over successfully, well I'm running out of time and proper thoughts of dread are setting in.

I have found Virgin help to be worse than useless even telling me on 2 occasions that I am not losing my Virgin email account and it is all just nonsense put out by the press. However I have found Junara very helpful - I raised a ticket as I couldn't get into my account once it was set up and had a real person call me back within an hour who talked me through the process of using a recovery code- and told me what to do in future.
I have switched virtually everything now to Gmail, I've a few places, including work, that will not switch but intend to use the 12 months @99p for Junara to pick up on those and keep trying. I do keep finding ones though I haven't changed - so again I've a year to pick up on everything else.

Wow! Nobody has offered to call me once - and this has been ongoing since beginning of October.

You mention Outlook/Thunderbird, are you already a user of these clients and therefore already using other email accounts?
Assuming that you do not wish to continue to use Junara once they start to charge £65/yr, why not do as @soolin has done and set up your preferred longer term email account now.
You could then forward all mail to this new account from Junara, setting up a rule to do this should be something that could be done from their web interface.
Would also have the advantage of starting to SEND email from the new, long term account sooner rather than later.
